Aeroplan Confirms Major Short-term Discounts on Awards

On Friday afternoon I wrote about Aeroplan rewards being priced below their award chart amount.

There is a pricing glitch going on right now at Aeroplan where business class awards are pricing at the economy class level and first class awards are pricing at the business class level

I pointed out that American Express points transfer instantly to Aeroplan, so it’s a sale that can be broadly taken advantage of (at least by folks who have Amex points). Comments on the post pointed out Aeroplan’s bonus for converting points in from other programs as well.

Of course Amex now ads fuel surcharges to awards on many partners. (Update: excuse the typo!)

Valerie (who registered on this site with an Aeroplan email address) adds the following:

I am the social media community manager at Aeroplan. We wanted to let you know that Aeroplan is offering special mileage levels to select travel regions/destinations for a limited period of time.
Members may book these flight reward tickets online or thru the contact center (booking fees apply). This sale is not a website glitch and this offer could end at any time.

Whether it’s a glitch or an unannounced sale, it sounds like they’ll at least be honoring — get in while you can!

Also an interesting point for those who felt that I shouldn’t have shared this because they already knew about it and letting others know might make it go away quicker.

  1. Thanks so much Gary. Booked an outbound SQ A380 from NY to SIN in business and inbound SQ A380 from FRA to NY.

  2. Booked for March – Chicago to Johannesburg (through London) in Business class for my wife and I for 200K total. Combo of United, SAA and SAS. Aeroplan points from Amex transfer posted the next day.

  3. Brad – What months are you looking at? Haven’t been able to find a complete leg in SQ A388 biz, just certain segments.

  4. It would be interesting and would make business sense for Aeroplan to keep a lower award chart permanently if they are charging YQ.
I would see it as a replacement for DC if that would be the case.

And it’s refreshing to see Aeroplan positively spinning (special mileage levels) an IT glitch and honoring it instead of pulling a Korean on everyone.

  5. I need to transfer SPG points to Aeroplan, which could take as much as a couple weeks or more. Any sense from your AC contact as to how long this fare sale will be available? And any sense how long SPG transfers to Aeroplan are taking right now?

  6. I smell an Aeroplan rat – due to the “promotion” a RTW in F is 125K – exactly what the rate was before the huge July devaluation, but now you have the added YQ (no deal there, imo).

  7. I don’t know if the sale is over but the booking option is down since mid-morning on the Aeroplan website.

  8. I just spoke with the Aeroplan call center and booked a business class award (YYZ-SIN) for 75k with AC/ANA. The agent called it a “seat sale” that could end at any time. Sadly had to pay over $800 taxes and fuel surcharges but business for economy points were worth it.
