Triple Points at Restaurants Today With the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

If you’re not one of the folks that’s completely snowed in, then today is the day to go out to eat. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner — since the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card earns 3 points per dollar on dining.

It’s the monthly ‘First Friday’ triple miles on dining bonus.

It’s also a great day to buy any gift certificates from your favorite restaurants as well! I believe I’ve only written about this once before, more than 8 months ago when the benefit was first introduced, so it seemed worth a reminder in the new year.

I do like the capitalized ‘First Friday,’ that makes the day sound almost religious.

Of course on days that aren’t the First Friday of the month, the card earns double points on dining still so as my grandfather used to say those days ‘shouldn’t be a total loss’.

  1. Of course it’s not the same as UR points, but if you have a Discover card, this quarter it is 5% cash back at restaurants.

  2. The 7% annual bonus is good but since it is awarded once in Feb for the previous year’s points, you will have to wait until Feb 2015 for charges made in 2014 to get the extra 7%. Therefore, for those that are canceling the card this year, you get 3 points per dollar and not 3.21. Still it is good and if you are buying restaurant gift cards, buy them on the 1st Fri of the month

  3. First friday? When I was in grammer school the penguins (that would nuns for those who never saw the Blues Brothers movie..) made me go to church on first friday. Nice to see a different take on it…….lol

  4. Hmm.. yeah 3x sounds exciting but you are essentially getting $1 extra (over what you usually get) for every $100 you spend at the restaurant. Seriously…. $1…

  5. @Cogswell Yeah, just one dollar, seriously. But if you had, oh lets say a FF miles account, or hotel points account, you can transfer the 300 points you get for that $100 spend into 300 miles or 300 hotel points. Which won’t get you anything on their own. But added to miles or points already in your account certainly helps.

I’ll happily take 3 miles per $, on spend I was going to do anyway. Or, as you say, you can redeem them for $1 😉
