  1. What’s surprising to me about the United MSY-CUN route is that Southwest hasn’t already done it. Southwest flies direct to 22 destinations from New Orleans, but they don’t fly anywhere in the Caribbean. I wish they would. Those of us interested in award bookings on that route would much rather use (a much smaller number of) Rapid Rewards points.

  2. I would add that New Orleans, pre-Katrina, was a significant gateway to Latin America. At one point, TACA was even headquartered there. Thrice-weekly direct flights to Guatemala City meant that LSU got lots of Guatemalan students, including a couple that I knew well when I was there. As someone who has traveled to GUA five times in the last six years, I dearly wish those flights would come back.

  3. Just saw your video with mommypoints at the Maldives… Got me thinking, what other hotels/cities are regular yearly, or regularly repeated trips for u? Would be an interesting post!

  4. Given that UA flew a route out of EWR to grease the Port Authority chairman, I wouldn’t be surprised if the MSY-CUN route had a similar motivation.
