New Hyatt Resort Redemption to Find Your True North, Cleanse Your This-and-That

At the beginning of the year Hyatt bought Miraval which includes the Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa in Tucson, Travaasa Austin Resort, and Miraval Life in Balance Spa at the Monarch Beach Resort. They’re folding the Cranwell Spa & Golf Resort in Massachusetts into the Miraval brand as well.

Starting today the Miraval Tucson property participates in Hyatt’s loyalty program for both earn and burn.

Some people are going to love this. Here’s how Conde’ Nast describes the Tucson resort,

This Hot Lister caters to the high-end New Age crowd, with both traditional spa treatments and chakra-reading seminars, healing ceremonies, drum circles, and sound therapy.

Pretty much if you want your experiences mindful while you search for your True North and cleanse your this-and-that Miraval seems like the place for you.

Here’s the relevant points redemption details:

  • This isn’t a category 7 hotel, it’s its own category at this point, standard rooms are 45,000 points per night and suites are 75,000 points per night.

  • These prices apply to single occupancy. A second person is 20,000 points per night.

  • Reward nights come with “enjoy a $175 resort credit per person, per day along with unlimited meals, snacks and over 120 wellness activities and classes each week”

  • Cash and points is 22,500 points and $450 for a standard room single occupancy, 32,500 points and $550 for a standard room double occupancy.

Through September 15th they’re offering a 4th night free package on paid bookings and 50% off award redemptions. Note that the redemption rebate does not stack with the overlapping 10% rebate for Hyatt’s co-brand credit card cardmembers.

Elite benefits also apply so top tier members are entitled to upgrades and can use confirmed suite upgrades as well.

Ultimately we’ll see the three resorts in World of Hyatt not just the Tucson property. Travaasa is renovating, and just notified most of its workers of layoffs while it’s closed until sometime in 2019.

We should expect to see the Miraval brand used more extensively throughout Hyatt’s portfolio — the chain’s CEO has called the Miraval wellness brand a “platform” and a “leverageable brand.” (World of Hyatt itself is supposed to be a ‘platform’ as well — though cynics might say it’s a platform for ex-25 stay Diamonds to take a leap off of.)

  1. I’ve stayed at Miraval in AZ before and it was overall a very nice stay. I was looking forward to them joining WOH but I do think the rewards pricing is high. The intro promo might be worth checking out but 65k per night for 2 people in a room is definitely not a good ROI as Miraval commonly shows up on flash sale sites like Ruelala, Gilt and Jetsetter. Overall another FAIL by Hyatt in my book adding to the WOH mess!

  4. The pessimist in me looks at this and sees a slippery slope of Hyatt properties being priced above Cat 7. Now this exception, tomorrow Tokyo, etc. This, plus the discontinuation of the 2 free nights CC, and I’m felling blue .Hope I’m wrong

  5. How high are the usual rates at Miraval AZ?

    Not sure I will make it there but I am very excited about Travaasa Austin inevitably joining WoH. Even if points redemptions are high, assuming cash rates stay in the same ballpark, that would be a much better place to go to relax compared to Hyatt Regency Lost Pines.

  6. Will this count as another Brand for the “Stay in 5 brands” free night certificate?

  8. @ Ivan Y If you’re planning a stay at Travaasa Austin, you’d better act soon as they are closing for remodel and additions this fall and expect to reopen in 2019.

  10. @ Bhindar – yes, I am aware of the closure (if they had stayed open during Labor Day weekend, would’ve taken advantage of pre-closure discounted offers). As it is, though, I am looking forward to visiting the updated property once construction is finished.
