Put a Name on an American Airlines Plane – Just $25 for a Good Cause

American Airlines is going to fly a Stand Up to Cancer-wrapped plane and anyone who contributes $25 or more can add a name to the wrapping that will go on the aircraft as a way of honoring a survivor of cancer, someone who is battling it now, or someone that has passed.

Make a donation of $25 or more to Stand Up To Cancer in July and add the name of someone you’d like to honor to an American Airlines Airbus A321. The aircraft will start flying this fall displaying all of the names that have been submitted.

The campaign around this features Tim McGraw, who I guess is famous but I only know him as the son of New York Mets reliever Tug McGraw.

Every family in America has a cancer story, my own family included. Too many of us have lost our parents, children, spouses and friends to this terrible disease..I’ve been so touched by the stories of the American Airlines team members I’ve met over the past month and I’m honored to lend my voice to this campaign to help create a world where all cancer patients can become long-term survivors and have more time with the people they love.

American and Stand Up to Cancer commit that “100% of donations received will go to support Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research programs.”

Make a donation and add a name to the aircraft at aa.com/standup through July 31. They will track all of the names and show you where on the plane each one is before the aircraft hits the skies in late September.

I asked American how long they’d fly the aircraft with this wrapping they tell me it will be “for the foreseeable future; we don’t have plans to re-wrap or change it once it’s in the air.”

  1. great idea, until the wrapper tears off mid-flight and lands in some ecologically sensitive area

  2. Thank you for popularizing this, Gary. A good friend just was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, so I donated in her name.

  3. This is super cool. Thank you AA family for thinking of our families and friends who have battled this disease! What a great way to promote donations to help end cancer as well as memorialize those who have won, are battling and lost their battles.

ALAN & SIMON – Stuff it, where the sun doesn’t shine! Maybe try to be positive for once in your lives. . .

  4. @Sunviking82 must not have realized the place to shove it was an ecologically sensitive area.

  5. I know that you stated that monies must be in by July31st is it still possible to make a donation and have the name of the recipient on the plane I know it is August 1 please reply.
