Here’s Why Airport Food is So Expensive (And Why It Isn’t Very Good)

  1. I’m surprised that AeroMexico promo hasn’t got more attention. It is a really, really bad idea. So bad, I checked to make sure it wasn’t a parody. Almost unbelievably stupid.

  2. Interesting that the airport food article mentions flying to Portland, but not that vendors in PDX are prohibited from selling goods for higher than street prices. It’s absolutely possible to have local vendors serve great food and thrive in an airport without charging inflated prices.

  3. Doesn’t have to be both mediocre and overpriced (i.e., anything OTG at EWR)…look at Tortas Frontera and the Publican in ORD for great, local options that are quite reasonable.

  4. Nothing wrong with McNuggets and fries from McDonald’s. And usually not a lot more expensive than McDonald’s outside the airport.

  5. @Gary – it’s my #1 too! One Flew South in ATL is pretty good. Feel like there are some decent ones on the West Coast overall too between the major airports.

EWR…thankfully there’s Classified…if I’m going to get ripped off w/mediocre, overpriced food, at least it’s in a quiet environment.
