Rakuten, formerly known as Ebates, is giving 3000 American Express Membership Rewards points to new members who make $25 in online purchases within 90 days. Rakuten is a shopping portal that gives you points for your online purchases, so that $25 – that you’d have spent anyway – earns you points, too.
Rakuten lets you earn cash back or Membership Rewards points. If you have an American Express Membership Rewards-earning card (the American Express® Gold Card is the Amex I spend the most on) you should prefer Membership Rewards points, since trading off cash back effectively buys Amex points at just 1 cent apiece and I value them at much more than that. And by the way if you have an existing Rakuten account, you can switch to earn Membership Rewards points under account settings.
Doctor of Credit thinks it should be possible for someone to earn credit for referring you as a new member, in addition to you earning this bonus.
