8 Bonus Points Per Dollar At Amazon, 9 Bonus Points With Uber Eats, And 2 Other Offers

I’ve been remiss in adding ‘Amex Offers’ to my American Express card accounts, so I went through and selected several. The best current offers presented to me, that seem to be available widely, are big bonus offers for purchases at Amazon and from Uber Eats, which I do anyway (which is always key) and which are big enough to get me to switch my payment card to an Amex for the next few weeks.

Just log into your American Express account and scroll down to see Amex Offers. You can generally add an offer to only one card, so make sure it’s the one you want to use for spending at the merchant for which there’s an offer.

It’s hard to imagine credit card rebates better than 8 extra points per dollar at Amazon on top of normal earning:

And Uber Eats is how I’ve been spending my $15 monthly Amex credit and also the service I’ve found most convenient and robust in my area for delivery anyway (though sometimes I’ll use Door Dash, had to burn those Sapphire Reserve credits after all). Earning 9 extra points per dollar at Amazon is a great reason to pay with Amex until I hit the earning cap after just a few orders.

But wait, there’s more! Finally two items in the ‘oh by the way’ category. First, this isn’t one that will be broadly interesting perhaps but also one I haven’t read about elsewhere: 6 extra points per dollar from Aesop.

I only flag this because I happen to like and use Aesop products, a small indulgence of mine since I was first introduced to them at the Park Hyatt Tokyo. There’s only so long a stash from a Tokyo hotel stay will last, and of course I cannot visit Japan now in any case.

Finally, American Express Membership Rewards is offering a 15% bonus on transfers to Avianca LifeMiles through December 15th, 2020.

I’d rather maintain the flexibility of my Membership Rewards points. I’m not taking advantage of this proactively – 15% isn’t close to tempting enough – and I tend to add to my LifeMiles account when they’re selling miles cheap (under 1.4 cents apiece) rather than through bank points transfers.

Still, LifeMiles is useful as a Star Alliance program with reasonable pricing and no fuel surcharges.

  1. @Gary, do Amazon gift card balance reloads and/or 3rd party gift card purchases count? The terms don’t seem to specifically exclude them, so I guess as long as the card gets charged by Amazon, will you get the bonus?

  2. Weird, I was targeted on year-old Green card but not brand-new Gold card. Does Amex block the juicy offers on cards that have an outstanding sign-up bonus offer?

  3. Up to 3000 points? That’s hardly worth the trouble. Once you’ve spent $375, the 8x bonus goes away.
