American AAdvantage Discounts Hawaii Awards: First Class 28,000 Miles (Coach is Half That)

American is discounting premium cabin awards between the U.S. and Hawaii doesn to 28,000 – 30,000 miles per person each way, a discount from the normal 55,000 (saver) and 67,500 (lowest AAnytime) award price. Use the new award search availability calendar to find dates where the lowest prices are available.

These are web special awards which can’t be changed but can be refunded ($150 for the first passenger, $25 each additional or waived for Executive Platinums). Premium cabin web specials aren’t available on American’s old, functional award calendar you have to use the embarrassing new default award search instead – which doesn’t even let you sort flight options by lowest-price premium cabin flight unless you exit the search, change parameters and limit to show only first class.

You’ll find availability to and from many U.S. cities – whether New York, Los Angeles, or smaller cities too – and Honolulu, with some availability to and from Maui as well.

Just go to AA.com, search for your city to your Hawaiian airport of choice, and search. Then when results come up for the first date you’ve searched, click ‘calendar’ and filter for ‘business/first’ (if you’re interested in economy those seats are available from 15,000 miles each way).

Available seats at these prices are available across a variety of months but the best inventory seems to be offered in peak January. Here’s pricing from my home city of Austin where I’m not seeing anything for less than 30,000 each way:

I’m not a fan of American’s new dynamic award pricing at all. And it’s not as though this pricing is better than premium cabin Hawaii awards used to be charged at. But American has been the worst in the U.S. at offering awards, especially premium cabin awards, since US Airways management took over – and availability at these prices is better than it’s been in recent times.

This has been covered on several sites but I’m not sure where I saw it first.

  1. Nice development in one sense, but it shows by making them non-changeable that they are still trying to make things unpleasant for award booking. They could have just made regular saver awards available.

  2. I just tried from PHX to HNL and surrounding airports. Not a single seat in Bus/FC from Jan through Sep in either direction. Plenty of 55K each way but no 28K availability.

  3. @Tim. You must be doing something wrong as I see plenty of 28K seats including the daily nonstop. I see at least 2 PHX-HNL seats on January 13, 14, 21, 25, 28 and 30.
