Capital One Customers: Have A Michelin-Star Dinner For Two Delivered With Virtual Cocktail Reception

Capital One is pairing with Michelin-starred chefs in four cities to deliver dinner for two along with cocktails, a virtual happy hour reception with the chef and a musician, along with a musical playlist they’ve chosen to accompany the menu.

Two cities are available for purchase at $150 (which is actually pretty good for what you get):

  • Chicago, December 3, chef Lee Wolen of Boka
  • Washington, D.C., December 17, chef Ryan Ratino of Bresca

Two cities are already sold out but available for wait list:

  • New York City, November 19, chef Emma Bengtsson of Aquavit
  • San Francisco, December 10, chef Teague Moriarty of Sons and Daughters

In order to purchase tickets you have to pay with a Capital One Visa. The package includes,

  • 7 tapas courses for two people
  • 4 cocktails paired with the menu
  • virtual happy hour reception
  • music for the menu following the reception

Moving limited-access premium events online is something we’ve seen from other card issuers as well. It’s great to see these packages continue. It’s not the same as gathering in-person, but getting a meal delivered from a top chef and experiencing it with the chef makes for a nice evening – by 2020 standards for sure!

And experimenting with virtual events may provide a path forward to scale some of these activities as well. Banks and travel brands have relationships that can open up experiences you couldn’t ever organize for yourself, or at least at any price you can afford. However the limiting factor is that a tennis superstar can’t be duplicated and has only so much time to spend with so many program members. How do you take that access and make it available at scale so that it’s a real meaningful benefit? Hopefully these experiments paint a way forward.

  1. Boka is among the most overrated and pretentious restaurants in Chicago. It rides off of the coattails of its neighbor, Alinea.

I went w/ my wife for Vtines day a few years ago. We each ordered only an entree and a bottle of wine. The bill was over $250 for the two of us.

Here’s the kicker: I ordered a steak which came with a watercress salad or something. Whne I asked if there were potatoes available to come with it, I was met with the reply of “we provide everything that this dish requires.”

B.S. I was still hungry after we left so we went to the whole foods down the street and raided the hot bar. No way I should leave hungry after a $250 meal.

  2. Sam……..a few clicks of the computer would have likely told you what to expect at BOKA. Foodies love a high price and this kind of experience. I love Longhorn Steakhouse…….big portions and way the heck cheaper. Rib steaks are great there. And you get your potatoes!
