Chase Sapphire Reserve $100 Annual Fee Credit

Chase is reportedly secure messaging Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardmembers informing them that they will receive a $100 annual fee credit. I haven’t verified how broadly this credit is being offered.

The card’s annual fee recently increased by $100 along with introducing new benefits, which may actually be more relevant to a lot of consumers right now. However they won’t want to lose cardmembers of a product that is focused heavily on rewarding travel and rewarding restaurant spend. People aren’t traveling as much, and aren’t eating out.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® has an initial bonus to earn 50,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. And it earns 3 points per dollar spent on travel and dining – great points that transfer to frequent flyer programs or can be spent directly on travel. This $550 annual fee card has a $300 annual travel credit, and provides airport lounge access with a Priority Pass card.

The new benefits recently added to this product include:

  • Up to a $100 application fee credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre✓®
  • One year complimentary Lyft Pink membership ($199 minimum value)
  • Complimentary DashPass subscription from DoorDash after activating by 12/31/21
  • $60 DoorDash statement credit in 2020 and again in 2021

Earning 3 points per dollar on travel includes Uber, and I enjoy earning 3 points per dollar with UberEats right now. The DoorDash DashPass and DoorDash statement credit are also really relevant now too.

I also like that while Citibank and Barclays have generally eliminated most protections from their cards, Chase Sapphire Reserve® still offers primary collision damage waiver for rental cars; trip and baggage delay, trip cancellation or interruption; medical evacuation; roadside assistance; purchase protection and return protection.

However I love to see Chase recognizing that their cardmembers are travelers not traveling, and proactively reaching out with a credit. If you’re a Chase Sapphire Reserve® have you received a secure message notifying you of one?

  1. I didn’t get the credit as of yet. My account balance is negative currently however with reimbursements. I better get a credit!

  2. I received the $100 credit Secure Message today. My anniversary is in July and I will probably product change to the Freedom.

  3. I got it. My account anniversary is in May, but I’ll have to run the numbers on whether or not it’s still worth it to me.

I also have a negative balance (as boilers does), so I would expect that he/she gets it as well.

  4. Nothing thus far….although I haven’t been using the card lately so I wonder if there is a monthly spend requirement to initiate the credit.

  5. I haven’t seen anything. I got the CSR right when it launched, so my annual fee gets charged in January. I just paid my last $450 fee before it increased to $550…so maybe I’m not going to be eligible…?

  6. Ahhh the credit only applies for current 2020 annual fees renewing in the next couple of months.

  7. I received the e mail and secure message. At first I thought this was a legit $100 credit… until I read the fine print. I had every intention of closing this account, and I’m still considering this.

The $100 credit e mail was INSULTING to my/our intelligence.

They raised the fee, and are giving me a one year grace period?? I’m pi$$ed at them.

  8. Does this apply to JPM Reserve as well? No message yet.
Chase and Hilton are smart to be proactive. Actions speak louder than words.

  9. none in mine my renewal date is September wondering if this is based on people renewing within the next 90 days ? I had a 78K spend last year so thats not an issue, even if I get the bonus offer am not renewing in September, like most downgrading

  10. @ghostrider – with 78K spend you are likely to come out ahead with CSR vs CSP just on straight point earning (2 vs 3 for dining and travel), you might want to do the math.

CSP=$95, CSR=$250 (after $300 travel credit). I figured my break even point was somewhere around $33K spend. Based on how much you value extra CSR benefits yours might be similar or slightly higher.

  11. I renew in September, so expecting nothing. But,as you say, the $60 in DoorDash will come in handy, especially since it allows pickup instead of delivery. I had gotten some use from the Lyft 15% off, but not so much lately.

  12. Got mine today. Card renews this month. I’ll happily take the one year reprieve on the fee increase. Can always cnx, change card if Chase becomes onerous to me.

  13. What is exactly new in TSA pre credit? It was there since CSR launch.

FTOH, CSR no longer gives you EC Executive at National. Product degradation all across, and for a higher fee. When all this pandemic madness is over, Amex must roll out a new Platinum+Gold offer for Chase UR users and lot of them will abandon sinking Chase ship for good.

On topic, I haven’t received any credit offers, my anniversary is in August.

  14. I got the $100 credit. Together with several refunds for air travel I have a healthy negative balance. With travel out of the question for the next few months, I’m not sure what to spend it on.

  15. I put airfare on Amex Platinum as the points ratio specifically for airfare is better there. That’s where my negative balance will show up 🙂

  16. Got mine today. My anniversary is June, this is welcome. I spend well north of $33 K, divide it between the CSR and my Amex Plat, Hyatt card for Hyatt stays. I may downgrade the Amex Plat to Gold this year, I need more opportunity to use my MM, given the dearth of Saver J awards. We shall see.

  17. No $100 credit PM for me yet. I’ve already used my $60 door dash credit and have used the lyft benefits a few times as well. Up for global entry renewal in early 2021, so I wasn’t even thinking of downgrading yet. (I also use the 1.5 cents per UR fairly frequently with the CSR as my home base for gathering my all my wife’s and my UR earning across many cards).

  18. Gary,
What’s the minimum credit limit for the Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited cards? I’m trying to get approved for the new Chase United Club Infinite card and Chase told me the minimum credit limit for it was $15k. They said I could possibly move around credit lines but it looked like I didn’t have enough to move. I found online that the Freedom cards could have as low as $300 credit limit but I would like to verify with you if you or somebody knows. Please help, Thanks!

  19. According to God Save the Miles site, Chase says credit will be for those accts renewing 1 Apr-1July this year. Who knows at this time if this will be extended.

  20. I just got my $100 credit on my Reserve card.. No notification or announcement–just the money.
