Delta SkyMiles: Europe Business Class For Just 98,000 Miles Roundtrip

Delta is running a flash sale on SkyMiles redemptions for business class trips to Europe. Book by November 14 for roundtrip travel December 24, 2019 through April 18, 2020.

Most Delta flash sales are for coach travel. It’s nice to see the occasional business class offer, even in off-peak periods. You’re likely only to find availability when prices would otherwise be low. However 98,000 miles roundtrip is a good deal – especially for use of SkyMiles. If you need to top off a Delta account, Membership Rewards points generally transfer instantly.

And there are blackout dates for the promotion, which seems odd because you’d expect Delta just to not offer eligible inventory on these days).

  1. Oh, and you have to fly during a full moon in a leap year… these types of promotions are completely useless!

  2. I got a great deal to Lisbon over a break for 98k and just $50 in taxes. It’s not the best use of miles (considering it’s on a 767-300er with the older Delta One and it’s a 6 hour flight) but it’s not the worst deal.

  3. And to think that Delta’s catch-phrase used to be “Delta is ready when you are.” 49,000 miles if you fly on the sixth Tuesday of the month; otherwise 240,000 miles each way.

I have a RT domestic coach SkyBonus voucher that is about to expire because of zero availability, five times this year.

How about Delta simply offering reasonable availability at the same mileage levels as United, American and Alaska do? Is that asking too much?

  4. As usual very little from West Coast. I guess you can fly from Seattle or SLC to London on certain days in March. Not exactly peak season.

Say what you will about US Air but they used to offer off-peak awards for winter travel to Europe. The dates were predictable and you could plan ahead. Not some flash sale with a few limited dates that receives way more attention than it deserves from the bloggers given that almost nobody finds them useful.

Personally I think it would better just to ignore all these faux “sales” (After all there are no award charts, right?) and just let the planes go out with empty seats. Then airlines might be forced to play the game a bit differently.

  5. I derived good value from this award sale– 98K roundtrip for ATL-MAD. Of course, I couldn’t find any connecting award space to GSO/CLT/RDU…. so will buy separate tickets, I guess.

A fine use of Delta miles, especially considering that my AAdvantage miles have been sitting for years largely unused because I can’t find SAAver award availability to anywhere I’d like to go.

  6. I searched for PHX-LHR in early January and Delta would not return ANY flights at all.
    JADRO. Just another delta ripoff.
