American Express is running a pop up Centurion lounge in Manhattan next weekend. They want to be where their customers are, and they want to be where their customers are shopping.

Other pop ups have foretold where they wanted to offer a permanent lounge. For instance they had a pop up at LAX before getting a deal done to build a lounge there. They did a London pop up and then announced a London Heathrow Centurion lounge.

So how do we read the new Tokyo pop up for Platinum and Centurion cardmembers running toad through Sunday Noon to 8 p.m. at Jing, 6-35 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku Tokyo?

The pop-up, ‘Tokyo Rakyu,’ will fuse premium elements of a Centurion Lounge with traditional Japanese culture. Platinum Card and Centurion Members who are traveling through Tokyo can visit the pop-up to enjoy a complimentary digitally enhanced tea ceremony experience and small bites and beverages. The experience will give Card Members a taste of a Japanese autumn while in the heart of the bustling capit

The Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong remains American Express’ only Centurion location in Asia. I’ve expected that Shanghai would be next, or that they’d be at the new Beijing Daxing airport. But could they be coming to Tokyo? And with U.S. flights largely moving to Haneda rather than Narita, which airport would they be able to get in at?
