Earn 5 Points Per Dollar on Southwest Airlines Spending, Counts Towards Companion Pass

Chase Southwest co-brand credit cards earn 5 Rapid Rewards points per dollar spent on Southwest Airlines travel for purchases made by September 30. Registration required. The bonus applies on up to $2000 spend per month.

  • Since Southwest Airlines has no change fees, you can buy tickets now and essentially use those as a credit towards future travel if you wish. That even lets you frontload your Southwest Airlines purchases while earning 5 points per dollar on all of the spend. Southwest Airlines gift card purchases are eligible.

  • These points count towards earning a Southwest Airlines Companion Pass which itself has reduced requirements to earn this year (you can earn 100,000 points instead of 125,000).

Depending on the Southwest card you have, it’s a bonus of an extra 2 or 3 Rapid Rewards points per dollar spent on Southwest tickets. This promotion, then, allows cardmembers to earn up to 12,000 bonus Rapid Rewards points on tickets purchased in August and September (depending on the specific card they have).

Eligible spend includes purchases “directly with Southwest Airlines®, including flight, inflight, Southwest® gift card, Rapid Rewards Points Center, and on Southwest Vacations® packages.”

Rapid Rewards Priority, Premier, Plus or Employee Credit Cards earn 3 bonus points, to get up to 5 points per dollar, and the Rapid Rewards Performance Business Credit Card earns 2 bonus points to get up to 5 points per dollar.

Eligible credit cards: Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards® Employee Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus Business Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card and the Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Credit Card

Bonus points may take up to “8 weeks after the end of the Promotion Period” to post.
