LAST CHANCE: Hyatt Visa Double The Elite Nights For New Cardmembers Ending

World Of Hyatt Credit Card cardmembers normally receive 5 elite nights every year (and earn 2 more elite nights for every $5000 they spend on the card).

However new cardmembers who are approved by December 31, 2020 will receive (10) elite nights both for 2020 and for 2021. That’s double the number of elite nights, twice. That’s on top of the mid-tier status that comes with the card, whose primary benefit is guaranteed 2 p.m. late check-out. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE.

What’s more, they’re offering a choice of initial bonus on the card.

  • Earn up to 50,000 Bonus Points That’s the standard offer: 25,000 Bonus Points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening, plus an additional 25,000 Bonus Points after spending $6,000 in spend within the first 6 months of account opening.

  • Earn a $200 statement credit plus 1 free night at any Category 1-7 hotel worldwide statement credit after first purchase and free night after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. You are offered a choice between these two on applications when you click off of the Hyatt website. (Details of this offer were collected independently and were not provided or reviewed by the card’s issuer.)

Now, I prefer the first points offer.

  1. I value those at $700. And I value a category 1-7 certificate with an expiration date at less than $500.

  2. Sure, a category 7 hotel can certainly cost more than $500 – but at the same time those cost 30,000 points, which I value a $420, and I value points more than a certificate that expires after one year.

  3. I also prefer points because they can be used for free nights or upgrades, can be used later, can be combined with more points for other awards. They’re just more flexible.

However the statement credit and free night offer requires less spend to earn, and may work better for some. Ultimately what I like is the choice, so you can choose the initial bonus that’s best for you. To get to the statement credit and free night offer, just click the card link on the Hyatt.com home page.

Earlier this year Hyatt offered additional qualifying nights for spend and I used by World of Hyatt Credit Card for this. I’ve requalified for top tier Globalist status. In addition to my current confirmed suite upgrades being extended, I’ve earned more that’ll be valid all through next year as well. When I get back on the road in earnest I’m going to be staying in a lot of suites.

Here’s what Hyatt is saying about extra elite nights for new cardmembers,

Furthermore, on top of one of these rich signup bonuses, new World of Hyatt Credit Cardmembers will be able to accelerate toward higher elite status and quickly earn Milestone Rewards with limited-time bonus Tier-Qualifying Night credits:

  • New World of Hyatt Credit Cardmembers who apply and are approved for the card by December 31, 2020 will receive 10 Tier-Qualifying Night credits toward tier status in 2020 and 2021. That’s double what cardmembers normally receive! This limited time offer will be available across Hyatt and Chase channels.
    • New Cardmembers will receive 10 Tier-Qualifying Night credits for 2020 in their World of Hyatt account within 8 weeks of their account opening, and again in 2021 within 8 weeks of January 1, 2021.

  • Plus, cardmembers will automatically receive Discoverist status upon opening the card, while earning 5 Tier-Qualifying Night Credits every year thereafter, as well as 2 additional Tier-Qualifying Night credits every time they spend $5,000 on their card.

I find this encouraging, even as a current cardmember, because it suggests to me they’re thinking creatively about incentivizing customers with elite nights. I suspect there’ll be more offers to accelerate earning status next year as well.

Comments

  1. I applied and received the card a month ago. Can I call Chase and get matched to receive 10 elite nights?

  2. if I cancel my old Hyatt Visa next week, am I be able to apply new WOH card before 12/31? How many days cool down do I need to apply the new card?

  3. Gary, in your expert opinion, please without regard for your commission if able, what do you think the bonus for new WOH credit card applications will be on January 2nd: 5 Tier-Qualifying Night credits, 10 Tier-Qualifying Night credits, 0 Tier-Qualifying Night credits (presumably all toward status in 2021 for the rest of 2021 and 2022) or something else? Thank you.

  4. @WOH Credit Card Wannabe …. Next Year – I genuinely do not know. The initial bonus offer has been very stable for quite some time (since the offer that went along with the card’s introduction ended). Could there be a bigger offer at some point? Sure. Chase has run elevated offers during the pandemic with many of its cobrand partners, among airlines/hotels only leaving out Hyatt (aside from the boost in elite night credits) and British Airways/Iberia/Aer Lingus.

  5. @Gary, is the 5 nights doubled due to the current journey promo? Got approved on 12/30 and see that the 5 free nights posted but don’t see it doubled.

  6. @Gary same question as John above. I did the same and am only seeing 5 elite nights in my account for 2021.

  7. If you applied before 12/31 and were approved, I am confident the second set of 5 will post in a separate sweep, I imagine this waits awhile because some people who applied 12/31 will not have been approved yet but may still be approved, easier to wait and catch the vast majority of eligible cardmembers.
