Just 11,000 Miles One Way to Europe (36,000 for Business Class)

Each month Air France KLM offers ‘promo awards’ discounted awards you can book from specific cities to anywhere in Europe over a close-in two month period. In May they launched special promo awards that lasted just three days rather than being available for a full month, and that were even cheaper with travel bookable between select cities and anywhere in Europe on either Air France or KLM.

It looks like we are getting new special promo awards on Tuesday. When you go to the website it says not available yet, but grayed out several deals are visible.

Here are a few that appear to be coming Tuesday:

  • Los Angeles: 14,000 miles one way in economy, 28,000 premium economy
  • Mexico City: 29,000 miles one way in premium economy, 36,000 business class
  • New York: 11,000 miles one way in economy
  • Seattle: 29,000 miles one way in premium economy, 36,000 business class

Often connecting itineraries beyond Paris/Amsterdam can be even cheaper than what’s advertised, and specific cities are put on sale because the flights are lightly booked so availability tends to be good. West Coast – Europe for just 36,000 miles each way in business class is fantastic. Come Tuesday we’ll see if some cities price even lower.

Indeed I usually look for business class deals, but this is even pretty cheap economy and premium economy too even when factoring in surcharges. American Express, Capital One, Chase, and Citibank all offer points transfers to Air France KLM Flying Blue, and transfers are generally immediate.

  1. Air France has two IAD-CDG flights per day, yet they never include them in their promo offers. I guess these flights sell out regularly without the promos.

  2. Some people may say that an honest and non-deceiving headline would be to include AF/KLM or Flying Blue in the title. But very few people have miles with them, and everyone else won’t click on it, so it is better to go with the generic clickbait headline, to waste everybody’s time, and get the click traffic.

  3. @KR – it’s simply wrong that “very few people have miles with them” they are a transfer partner of all the major bank currencies, and points generally transfer instantly from all of them. there’s even a 75% bonus on purchased miles with them right now, too. So I believe your premise is mistaken.

  4. I have already booked west coast to Budapest returning Prague to west coast using points on Air France. The points offering now are fewer than I used when I booked. Any way to rectify this?

  5. Do KLM/AF awards come with a serious chunk of taxes/fees? I’m sitting on around 100,000 MR points and 70,000 UR points which I figured I’d hang onto until somebody offered a really useful transfer % bonus. But if I can snag one, I’ll happily take a 72,000 mile business class trip to europe. Bird in the hand. Any opinion which currency is more useful to keep if the ultimate goal is a transfer bonus?
