Marriott Award Redemption Discount And 9+ Other Offers, One Week Only

Marriott has brought back its “Week of Wonders” offers for October 7 – 14. There’s some decent room rates, 2000 bonus points for some, a discount on mattresses and robes, and bonuses for points purchases.

The major item here would be lower free night award pricing, with over half of Marriott’s properties committed at ‘off-peak’ redemption rates when you use your points over the next week… but you’ve got to stay quick to benefit.

  • 25% Off at Most Hotels. 25% off is going to be a reduction off of full rate, so not the savings you’ll achieve compared to the best rate you’d otherwise find, but should still be a deal at around 70% of Marriott properties which are participating for stays through January 17, 2022.

The offer terms though say “Availability is extremely limited while supplies last.” The extremely modifier is certainly not there by accident.

There’s a separate offer for 15% off of all-inclusives in the Caribbean and Latin America.

  • Co-brand cardmembers earn 2000 bonus points with a stay. The promotion only applies to new bookings made between October 7 – 14, 2021 (so you may need to cancel and rebook an existing reservation to take advantage of the offer) for stays complete by November 21, 2021. Registration required, and the bonus can only be earned once. This is worth ~ $13.

  • Up to 33% off Redemptions. Over 4000 properties (so more than half the Marriott portfolio) are available at off-peak redemption pricing. Dates where they were priced at regular or peak will move to off-peak during this week. But it’s only valid for stays in October. It’s almost like Bonvoy was afraid some member somewhere might actually benefit from the offer.

That’s a far cry from 90% of hotels being priced off-peak during last year’s week of deals and last year stays were allowed through November at least.

  • Bonus on purchased points 50% for general members and 55% bonus for elites on purchases of 2000 or more points. A 55% bonus means buying points at $0.008 apiece, which is still slight more than I believe they’re worth.

  • Triple points on Marriott homeshares. During the one week promo period you’ll earn triple points on Homes & Villas by Marriott bookings: Booked by October 21 and stays complete by March 31 2022.

  • Escape To Luxury Package is available on stays of 2 or more nights through January 17, 2022 at participating EDITION, St. Regis, and Ritz-Carlton properties with a $300 in folio credit that must be spent on things other than room rate and fees. In Asia Pacific the offer is also available at JW Marriott, W, and Luxury Collection properties. And for hotels in U.S. and Canada the rate is available Thursday – Sunday only.

  • Partner offers There will be offers “offers from airlines including United, Emirates, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Cruise with Points, and rental car companies Hertz® in the U.S., and SIXT, outside the U.S.”

  • $50 Marriott gift card per $200 spent on Marriott products like bathrobes and beds. Discounts on beds and bedding aren’t uncommon of course.

  • 30% off select Away luggage A 30% discount is good because the bags are fine in my view though normally overpriced for what they are. Away has collaborated with a ton of brands (right now even Chase), they’ve had lots of marketing dollars to spend.

  • New Experiential Auctions Marriott Moments on offer as with all such things, they’re incredibly special opportunities for the right (albeit sometimes limited) audience.

They’re highlighting a golf clinic in Las Vegas including meet and greet with Collin Morikawa before playing 18 holes; a virtual visit with Wayne Mackie to review plays from last year’s NFL season to go over close plays; commission a piece by artist Peter Tunney; private villa dinner served by the executive chef of the JW Marriott Venice Resort.

There are a lot of offers here. None of them are exciting on their own, but a few will be strategically useful to some readers. A few of these come close to being outstanding, if only the terms weren’t quite so restrictive.

  1. All of these are so marginal that they fall into the “if you were planning to anyway” category. Even to Marriott, I can only see this helping move over some marginal business travelers that maybe were considering Hilton or something as an alternative.

I cannot see many people otherwise choosing to stay, at a Marriott, because of an extra 5% savings or w/e. Hard pass from me.

  2. Hyatt came out of the gate STRONG in January, motivating me to get back into Globalist status. Every time I see these Marriott offerings, despite my lifetime status earned with Starwood, it makes me so happy that I’m giving Hyatt all of my business. My only hope here is that Marriott sees their loss of loyalty travelers and actually makes an improvement. In the meantime, I see many Park Hyatts in my future.

  3. Link to 2k offer is broken, but you can find it by going to promotions in your account. Great IT work there Marriott.

No list of participating locations for off peak redemptions. Even Marriott Platinum desk can’t tell which hotels are offering this. Again, nice work guys. Way to piss off your customers.

  4. Just a data point: my recent stay just posted, and I got the 2K bonus on the stay although it was booked in advance of the registration window.
