New Singapore Airlines Four Month Award Hold Option

News notes from around the interweb:

  • Amidst concern over the coronavirus, a boy with a fever wasn’t allowed to board a Chinese domestic flight and his parents abandoned him, leaving him behind at the airport. Eventually he was permitted to board and the family was “seated at the front of the cabin away from other passengers.”

  • A bunch of low-priced travel auctions ending at Luxury Travel Diary.

  • Man registered his beer as an emotional support animal. Two and a half years ago of course a man checked a can of beer as luggage.

  • Report Singapore Airlines charging $25 to put an award on hold for four months (no longer offering free award holds while you transfer points)

  • One Mile at a Time noted that hotel chain Accor is eliminating single use plastics globally. Commenter Mark there hypothesized that I would lose it. On the contrary, I’d just point out that while we’re handing out moral approbation for these sorts of acts that Al Qaeda-linked Somali terrorist group Al Shabaab, which killed three Americans earlier this month, has just banned single use plastic bags too.

Jubaland regional leader Mohammad Abu Abdullah said the group had come to the decision due to the “serious” threat posed by plastic bags to both humans and livestock.

He added that pollution caused by plastic was damaging to the environment.

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator will be the biggest game of the year.

  1. Probably going to get creamed for this. However, I wish that Microsoft Flight Simulator had a 737 Max simulator, crash mode and all. I would like to try to keep it from crashing myself, to see how hard it is. Just saying.

  2. RE: Single use plastics. Your retort is cute, but obviously false equivalence and non sequitur. Silly.

  3. Microsoft flight simulator biggest game of the year? By what? Amount of data? Certainly not going to be the top selling game. Would be absurd to suggest such a thing with games like Cyberpunk 2077 and last of us 2 coming out. Game of the generation? GTFOH.

  4. Don’t see why SQ should allow people to hold awards for four frickin months. I can see for a few days while you transfer points over, but how about not tying up award space for people who have the miles now and want to make a booking? Tough enough finding award space without someone paying a fee to keep one or more awards unavailable to everyone else.

  5. For such a robust gentleman, Gary, you sure do have a thin skin. Just more top notch thought leadership here!

  6. I would have bid on the Taj Mahal Palace hotel deal had the dates not started April 1. I need two nights in Mumbai late February, and will stay at the Oberoi instead.
