Why Passengers are Increasingly Choosing Airlines Based on More than Just Schedule and Price
It’s a fools errand for airlines like American or United to offer a lowest common denominator product. When a business produces a commodity product, the lowest cost producer wins. Spirit is at a great advantage because American and United will always have higher costs.
Given their cost structure legacy airlines need to earn a revenue premium. And customers are already beginning to make buying decisions on more than schedule and price a trend that is only going to become more pronounced as passengers are presented with information during the booking process on what to expect from their flights like seat power and high speed internet.
Two Strange Airline Optical Illusions (and I Can Explain Only One)

Why the FAA Delegates Certification to Boeing — and Why That’s a Good Thing
One of the things many people have been shocked to learn, in the aftermath of the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crash, is that the FAA delegates much of the certification process to the aircraft manufacturer.
People are shocked, shocked, that a company would be able to ‘self-certify’ and suggest this is some sort of dereliction of duty when nothing could be further from the truth.

Their flight used to operate Lahore, Pakistan – Manchester, UK – New York JFK. They weren’t allowed to fly non-stop to the U.S. for security reasons. The US government wasn’t comfortable with a plane load of passengers getting screened in Pakistan and flying to the States.
Government Wants to Ban Flights Between Amsterdam and Brussels
There’s a move afoot to end flights between Brussels and Amsterdam, because members of the Dutch government believe the flight is too short.
KLM currently runs 5 flights a day between the two cities.
Amsterdam and Brussels airports are about 125 miles apart if you’re driving, 98 miles by air.
What it Takes to Get Fired at United Airlines (Same Thing That Will Get Your MileagePlus Account Closed)
United Airlines employees may be known for a chain of events that led to the David Dao beating, for shoving an elderly man to the ground and threatening to steal his miles if he complained, and for killing a dog.
But abusing travel benefits? That’s a step too far.
Cargo is the Airline Deregulation Everyone Agrees Worked
Cargo can be as important – or more important – than passengers on many international flights. In fact there are flights operating largely because of the cargo revenue — which can be cheap to fly and even better for award space.
American Airlines shared some of the surprising cargo they flew over the holidays, as they’re on pace to earn $1 billion in cargo revenue for the year while carrying 1.82 billion pounds of goods including 22,000 pounds of chestnuts, 235,000 pounds of New Zealand lamb, 14,000 pounds of Argentinian beef, and a partridge in a pear tree.
