IHG has rebranded as IHG Hotels & Resorts. And they’ve changed the name of their loyalty program from IHG Rewards Club to IHG Rewards.

IHG Rewards Club New Promotion And Easier Elite Status-Earning For 2021
IHG Rewards Club has launched its first quarter promotion, reduced elite status requirements for 2021, rolled over 2020 to count towards earning status this year, and extended the pause on points expiration and the validity of free night stay certificates.
IHG Rewards Club: Register For Double Points And An Extra Bonus For Cardmembers
IHG Rewards Club is offering double points for stays October 1 through December 15 (registration required) with a kicker that’s 10,000 bonus points after first stay during the promotion period for co-brand credit card cardmembers.
New IHG Rewards Club Members Earn A Free Night After Two Stays
IHG is offering U.S. residents who join the program by September 30 and complete two qualifying stays by January 31, 2021 a free night worth up to 40,000 points that must be redeemed by April 30, 2021.
Similarly, joining their Intercontinental brand’s Ambassador program by November 15 (which is a paid program) and staying just once at an one of their premium brands (Intercontinental, Kimpton, Regent but not Fairmont) by January 31, 2021 earns a free night worth up to 40,000 points that must be redeemed by April 30, 2021. Ambassador benefits are even improved this year and next.
One Hotel Will Charge You $10,000 If You Get Fed Up With The Service And Leave
The 70,000 point per night Kimpton Seafire Resort on Grand Cayman offers pretty good award availability, but you’d better not have an emergency while you’re there and have to leave early – or get fed up with service failures either and decide to leave – because the hotel’s rules say they impose a $10,000 early departure fee.
IHG Rewards Club: Up To Quadruple Points On Stays Through September 8
Hyatt was first out of the box with a lucrative hotel promotion 2500 bonus points for your first stay if you’re elite, triple points starting with second stay for everyone. I took that as an opening gambit, expecting to see strong promotions to put heads in beds across the board.
IHG Rewards Club, the loyalty program for Intercontinental, Holiday Inn, Kimpton and related brands, is next up offering U.S. residents up to quadruple points on stays June 12 through September 8.
With IHG Discounting Many Hotels Up To 50%, New Dynamic Pricing Is Bad For You
IHG appears to have rolled out fully dynamic pricing for awards. While that means some hotel redemptions for a very low number of points now, long term this is a terrible thing for members. Don’t believe others who call dynamic pricing an ‘amazing deal’.
Two Programs Failing Members, Continue To Expire Points During Coronavirus Crisis
Loyalty programs will need their program members again soon. These are the people who can be incentivized to fill seats and rooms. They’re the ones who will either be chased away by a program which treats them poorly during this challenging time, or lured away by a program who treats them well.
So I think it’s especially notable which programs are still expiring their members’ miles.
Hilton And IHG Make Prepaid Stays Flexible, IHG Makes Status Easier To Get (Rebook For Savings Now?)
Hyatt was first out of the gate offering compensation to people cancelling non-refundable bookings. Hilton and IHG both have come out with even greater flexibility, and both say they’re making changes to elite status requirements.
There are ways to benefit even if you plan to keep your current stays – but should you?
Buy IHG Points For Just Half a Cent Each (Matches Lowest Price Ever Offered)
IHG Rewards Club – the loyalty program for Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and related brands — is offering a 100% bonus on purchased points through December 31. This applies to purchases of 7000 or more points.
At a 100% bonus purchases of 26,000 points or more cost just $0.005 apiece which is the lowest price I see them sell points for. Oddly purchases of 26,000 points is cheaper than 25,000 points because the cost per point drops. I believe the points are worth slightly more than this.
