A year ago Wyndham doubled the points price of their best hotels abandoning flat 15,000 points per night pricing across all properties and moving to three redemption tiers: 7500; 15,000; and 30,000 points per night.
At the time they shared that hotels would be recategorized annually though they did’t anticipate significant shift. A year has passed and on February 11 they’ll be making annual category changes.
New York’s rent control laws are truly bizarre and now a man who checked into a hotel and as a result claimed to own the hotel has even managed to get a housing court to agree.
Fortunately the hotel in question, the
Wyndham Rewards members receive waived DoorDash delivery fees when ordering food to any Wyndham Rewards hotel with promo code WRD. In addition they’re offering 250 Wyndham Rewards points per order, whether delivery is to a hotel or not by starting the order through Wyndham’s site.
It’s an interesting partnership and if you order via DoorDash anyway, you might as well collect Wyndham points when you do.
In October I wrote that I expected Wyndham to abandon their one price for all hotel awards and move to a tiered award chart.
Specifically four years ago they introduced 15,000 points per night at all hotels and when they introduced redemptions for timeshares and vacation rentals those were also priced at 15,000 points (per bedroom) per night.
That’s happening. They’re also tweaking elite benefits and adding new earning and redemption partners. And there’s a last chance to transfer La Quinta points without losing half their value.
Five years ago most Wyndham properties could be booked for a maximum of 16,000 points. They jacked up award prices to as much as 40,000 points (after pricing some properties as high as 45,000 and 50,000 points).
And then they introduced a new flat redemption rate of 15,000 points per night in 2015. This was hailed as a big decrease in pricing for their best properties, when really is was reverting to what pricing had been just two years earlier — and a big increase in prices for lower-end hotels.

Today you can buy Wyndham Rewards points at a cost of $11 per 1000 (so 1.1 cents per point). They limit you to purchasing just 5000 points per year.
Starting tomorrow they’re increasing the amount of points you can buy to 10,000 but also raising the price to $13 per 1000 (1.3 cents per point).
