Today Only: 75,000 Membership Rewards Points for New Small Business Amex

One Mile at a Time beat me to the punch on this, he’s in Dubai so he has a bit of a time zone advantage today.

Today only – November 3 – American Express is offering 75,000 Membership Rewards points for spending $10,000 on the card within 5 months. It’s the small business version of the Premier Rewards Gold card (which is one of the three primary cards that I use myself), earning triple points on airfare and double points on gas, shipping, and advertising. The $175 annual fee is waived the first year.

The standard offer for the card is excellent, even, no fee the first year and 50,000 bonus points.

If you’ve signed up for that offer, it’s worth a ‘bump the bonus’ email to American Express. Let them know that you appreciate your card and your relationship with them, you see that they’re giving 75,000 points to new cardholders and as a loyal cardmember you hope your business is as valuable. Send that through the secure messaging system, and if that doesn’t get you the points you can call, ‘bumping a bonus’ is always a “your mileage may vary” activity but it’s worth a note to ask for the bigger offer.

Personally I signed up for the Premier Rewards Gold card over the summer while folks were successfully bumping that card to 75,000 points. My wife was actually targeted for a 75,000 mile offer which she did successfully receive.

I signed up for the standard 15,000 points on that personal card, called American Express to have them add the bonus ID to my account to get the 75,000 points and waited for them to post. Instead of 75,000 points I received 25,000 (odd, since I was supposed to get just 15,000 from my original offer).

So now I’m in the process of trying to get them to honor the bigger bonus. I emailed through their account messaging system, and received a letter in the mail denying the bonus. I followed up through their messaging system and was told I would get another letter, which after a month did not come. So now I’ve sent them another message pointing out that my wife got the offer, they’ve honored it for others, an American Express representative assured me that I would get the bonus, I’ve since subsequently been personally solicited for a 50,000 point offer, and now today they’re offering 75,000 to anyone for a business card. I don’t give up easily.

(Disclosure: while the 50,000 point offer does earn me a referral commission, this 75,000 point ‘today only’ offer does not.)

  1. Gary,
I’ve found a secure message sent through social media (I use Facebook), works best. I’ve always gotten an answer within a few hours, and always to my advantage.

  2. Just got my secure message back from our Amex friends in India. Not only “no”, but a rude “no”. Then I called the 800 # on the back of the card, who then said to call the 800# for Membership Rewards. I got a nice and knowledgeable American there, who wrote down the whole description of the 75K bonus and then said it had to be sent to the Ft Lauderdale office for an answer in the next 10 business days. Eeesh. He did say it helps the case to include the complete web address for the ad that Gary is including above, to show that the offer was not targeted to only a few people.

  3. “while the 50,000 point offer does earn me a referral commission.” Gary I thought you don’t get referral bonus’s.
