Wyndham Changing Award Price At 800 Hotels, Won’t Say Which Ones

A year ago Wyndham doubled the points price of their best hotels abandoning flat 15,000 points per night pricing across all properties and moving to three redemption tiers: 7500; 15,000; and 30,000 points per night.

At the time they shared that hotels would be recategorized annually though they did’t anticipate significant shift. A year has passed and on February 11 they’ll be making annual category changes. Wyndham shares:

  • 9% of hotels are changing category
  • About 300 hotels go up in price, about 220 to 15,000 points and 80 properties to the 30,000 point tier.
  • About 500 hotels go down in price

Wyndham Grand Rio Mar, Puerto Rico

About 300 properties in total will be 30,000 points per night – double what they were at the start of 2019. These, of course, are generally the hotels members want to redeem for.

If you’ve already booked a hotel for future travel that goes down in price, points will be automatically refunded. And of course bookings made before the adjustment will lock in current pricing if a hotel goes up in category.

Shockingly – although not surprising given Wyndham’s history with this – though they’re telling us that prices are changing in two weeks, even the number of hotels where prices are changing, they are explicitly deciding not to tell members which hotels will go up or down in price. That’s sad, and one more reason perhaps that so many readers seem to have moved on from the program.

  1. The program completely sucks now. Unless you want to stay in a roach motel then you will be using 30,000 points. So much for member loyalty!

  2. Just another reason to start researching other programs. As a Wyndham owner I find their lack of transparency troubling.

  3. We have a few more Wyndham points to get rid of. Was looking at a few airport hotels and a microtel that is listed for $79 a night is 15,000 points. That is beyond crazy. I imagine the Days Inn London Waterloo will go up to 30,000. It isn’t super nice but clean and in a great location (we’ve stayed there a few times). I just need to use the rest of my points and be done with them.

Isn’t a larger reason the fact that Wyndham’s properties are overwhelmingly in the lowest hotel facility categories? The business traveler is likely to use it less.

  5. I have called and left several messages for the GM STILL no call from Wyndham.i had an awful experience with them the so called person forgot to turn off her headset I could hear her talking about me.she didn’t even speak professional using words oh man no worries .when I asked for a manager.4 times.they lost my points. They had 2 accounts in my name couldn’tgive me an answer. The manager was nice.but Wyndham needs to get there shit together.still waiting on a call. They used 15k points when it was supposedto be7.500. The hotel was great pet friendly.clean. Wyndham has the pproblem

  6. Wyndham is all about money. Greedy. Wish I never bought a time share with them. Points system is unrealistic. Will look at other credit catds that offer more!

  7. Yes, my husband and I are totally frustrated and discussed by all their shenanigans! They list their hotels by the different levels. You would think that the lower level would be the point value of 7500 points. Because they say we have up to 4 nights free with our points. But that’s not true. Even at a super 8 low end hotel they are still asking for 15000 points. So in reality we only get 2 free nights and they can’t tell us where there is a hotel that actually takes the 7500 point for the night. Again this is totally frustrating and disappointing to all its reward members. We are definitely looking at staying at Holiday Inns and signing up with there rewards. It seams like there is a Holiday Inn everywhere and they are more friendly and treats their customers better anyways!!
    Sincerely,
    A frustrated rewards member
