Here’s an idea for what to do during a layover at LAX… take a free off-airport parking shuttle to the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda.
An In-N-Out is located on nearby Sepulveda Boulevard right next to the Parking Spot–a parking structure that conveniently provides free shuttle service. All you have to do is wait under the red “Hotel and Courtesy Shuttle” sign outside of any airport terminal, and when the yellow and black polka-dotted Parking Spot shuttle swings by, jump on board. It will take you literally next door to In-N-Out. Follow your nose through the back door, across the parking lot, and right inside where you need to order a double-double and fries to enjoy the best layover of your life.
There are a few things to be very careful about, however.
First off, you need to make sure that you get on the Sepulveda Parking Spot shuttle; otherwise you will end up at the Parking Spot’s Century location. Additionally, you should allow yourself at least two hours to be extra safe. The shuttles come pretty regularly and the drive is only five to ten minutes, but the line at In-N-Out can be as long as 20-30 minutes during peak hours. And then you’ve got to get back to the airport and through security once again.
Mmmm… Some In-N-Out sounds quite delicious right now. 🙂
You can visit In-N-Out at SFO, too: there’s an In-N-Out burger just across the street from the Millbrae BART station. BART to Millbrae only costs $1.50, and the In-N-Out parking lot is a favorite waiting spot for limo and van drivers — if you find yourself pressed for time, you could probably talk one of them into dropping you off on his way to pick up a fare at the airport.
Beware: recent BART changes make this a little less pleasant than before. At most hours you’ll have to take BART one stop north to San Bruno and hop across the platform to catch a Millbrae train.
The correct Parking Spot shuttle is the one with the RED sign to Sepulveda (as mentioned they have two LAX locations, but the RED sign one goes to the location next to In-N-Out. Since the sign at LAX you stand under is also red, just think red all the way.
I like In n Out burgers. Been eating them since the ’60s and they offer great value. But I would also rate them lower than Shake Shack, Hopdoddy’s (mostly in Austin and Dallas), and Burgerville (Pacific NW). Only Burgerville offers similar pricing. I like Hopdoddy best because they offer so many more options, not to mention unbelievable garlic, parmesan, truffle fries.
This may be the single greatest tip ever shared on this blog.
