Booking for the Star MegaDO 4 domestic charter flight is now open at megado.com. Book your tickets here.
It’s the ultimate frequent flyer adventure, where 150-200 enthusiastic folks get together, charter an aircraft, and go on behind-the-scenes tours of airlines and aircraft, while picking up swag and tons of miles and elite status along the way.
The last event, Oneworld MegaDO, sold out in under 20 minutes. But there’s a widebody aircraft this time, hopefully the trip will be able to accomodate more folks and won’t sell out nearly as quickly.
I think this sold out in 7 minutes
Yep… I think so too.
This was a record quick sell out. Maybe 5 minutes? Next year we need a 747 or A380.
Didn’t try this time around. When something sells out that fast, it means the planners didn’t price the package correctly. Its also as if they are giving it away to cheap. We all love cheap things, but maybe the price should be padded with a little profit that’s rolled over to the megado charity.
This way things stay “non profit” yet they don’t sell out in 45 seconds next time.
@tjcabq – perhaps a higher price with more charity is one approach. Thing is, that there’s also a really strong desire to keep the trip affordable, at least that after a certain level of available funds that price doesn’t become the reason someone can or cannot do the trip. A real tension.
But yes indeed, price could presumably have been much higher. Folks are getting far more value than they are paying for out of this. It’s a real labor of love and a thrill.
Put it on eBay and auction the spots.
I agree with Gary’s comment that the goal is to keep the SMD affordable, and it offers a great value to the particpants. We all owe the organizers like Tommy, Gary, and Ed a big thank you!
Perhaps next year they can get a 3 class 777, 747, or A380 to accomodate demand and still keep the price affordable.
The website only has the tickets for the SMD Giddy Up Day!
Can we just attend this event only?
@Peter the Giddy Up day will be open to anyone, even if they weren’t on the MegaDO
Gary I am not happy! I was one of the first people trying to get tickets to this since January and the process of buying these is not clear or outlined well at all. Leading up to the sale date I got numerous emails regarding “promotional” opportunities and contests and launch parties (which I also couldn’t get tickets to) and what not, while it was never made clear when exactly I could be sitting in front of the computer in my undies to pounce on a seat. Someone in my income bracket cannot afford auctions nor higher prices but if I knew when to buy the ticket at least I could have had a chance.
