Somehow I wound up in a nostalgic mood yesterday, the kind you feel when you go through old drawers or old boxes and look through each and every item, bringing back memories of childhood or high school.
Only for me, it was reading through the old archives of this blog, which I’ve been writing for over 10 years. I was struck by the early posts, how I was trying to figure out what the blog was supposed to be, it was as much postings of weird news as it was travel deals, and the deals and offers I posted were really just the things I wanted to keep track of, this website was just a convenient bookmark or repository for links and my notes on them so I could find them more easily later.
Writing this long there’s been a great deal that hasn’t stood the test of time — from short-term offers, to suggestions on how to make the most of Northwest Worldperks, Continental Onepass, American Trans Air, and even Hooters Air.
(Looking back at old posts was a great trip down memory lane to a time when the priciest Hyatt award night was 15,000 points and a standard ‘rule-buster’ style business class ticket on United to Asutralia was 150,000 miles.. and that was last seat availability.)
There’s also been plenty — from advice to trip reports — that, and perhaps this is just my hubris but bear with me, shouldn’t be lost down the memory hole. In fact, re-reading some of these posts it seems like there’s quite a bit that could be helpful still.
So in addition to being able to enter queries in the search box of course you can now find links on the left hand side of the page with compilations of trip reports (find out what to expect in Asiana first class or on Cathay) and how to save money on airfare or what electronics I find useful to carry on travel. And there’s a top deals page that will highlight best current offers, I’ll try to keep it updated as new deals come along and others expire.
Here are the pages that I’ve added:
- Advice: Airlines and Airfare
- Advice: Credit Cards
- Advice: Frequent Flyer
- Advice: General Travel
- Advice: Hotels
- Best Credit Card Offers
- Top 10 Deals
- Trip Reports – Air
- Trip Reports – Food
- Trip Reports – Hotels
- Trip Reports – Lounges
- Trip Reports – Other

Thank you. Gary. I get so much value from reading View from the Wing
Here’s to 10 more years. You should do a post about your top 5 or 10 articles.
Years ago when you and one or two others were pretty much it when it came to ff travel blogging your comprehensive & extensive posts provided me with incredibly useful information. The emphasis on cc churning (ftg was way ahead of everyone, by years) has led to a crowded field of bloggers. Glad that others will discover how jam-packed and enjoyable your older posts are.
Great effort, Gary. Thanks. Ur a valuable resource for folks like me where the journey is goal
Love it, and long overdue. 🙂 You are among the top, if not top, travel bloggers out there, but it was so difficult to navigate your past content. Thanks for the effort!
This is great! Seems like the blogs have gotten so big that it’s hard for frequent readers to wade through it all in search of one tip or something specific. Thanks for making the effort! You rock!
Thank you , this is just what I needed an easy way to find answers to all my questions.
You are definitely one of top.
Thanks Gary! Searching on BA can sometimes be a pain, even if I know the answers are there.
Nice nostalgia, Thanks !
Great value-added feature. While I’ve had some success in searching for a specific hotel review here before, it can be time consuming and doesn’t always return what I was looking for. This will make it much easier to track down previous trip reports. Ben has his compiled in a similar fashion and I’m glad you have done so as well.
Gary, thanks for the effort, it is so much easier to find stuff now!
Now a specific question: does the Priority Club Visa still pay 80,000 points through your link? The standard offer out there is 60,000… I understand you cannot guarantee anything, but i’m just curious how this works, would you find out quickly if this link stopped paying 80k? Thanks!
@maximizer my understanding is it does, and i’d hear from readers
