Wandering Aramean reports that Air Berlin will give you 1500 points for signing up.
Register until 31th July 2013 (‘promotion period’) for topbonus, airberlin’s award-winning frequent flyer program and look forward to the following benefits:
- 1,000 award miles as a welcome gift
- Up to 500 additional award miles for selecting “email” as the form of communication and registering for the topbonus communication.
So… why might you care about Air Berlin’s miles?
Because Air Berlin is one of the few international airlines which regularly offers to match status you may have on another carrier.
There are plenty of successful status match reports. Requests for status match go to service@topbonus.de with a copy of existing elite status credentials (eg elite member card and printout of online activity)
And since airberlin is a member of oneworld, their Gold status would get you lounge access when flying American Airlines (including on wholly domestic itineraries).
- You can join the 30,000+ people who see these deals and analysis every day — sign up to receive posts by email (just one e-mail per day) or subscribe to the RSS feed. It’s free. Don’t miss out!
I like this, but I feel like anybody that cares about AA lounges would already get it via Amex Platinum. Still, I want to get Gold from Aegean, and then get this.
Any idea how long the status match is good for?
90 day status match.
works like a champ at AA lounges.
What is the connection between bonus miles and status match? Even if you did not avail this bonus mile offer you should still be able to apply for a status match. Also, I am not sure if 90 day match is very useful. It needs to be at least a year for it to be worth the effort.
Did anybody else join this offer and get credited with 1300 miles instead of 1500?
Weird…I got only 1250 miles
The full 1500 will appear after you click the confirmation link in the registration e-mail.
The only way to prevent points expiration is by gaining the topbonus gold (50k miles) or plantium (100k) status.
Therefore I only see the value in matching the status but not gaining any additional miles — unless you can match the status before it expires.
