The schedule includes more time for detailed work not just on earning plenty of points, from credit cards to shopping portals but also on how to redeem your points, to effectively find the award space you want and navigate your airline’s website or telephone call centers to get those seats. And it includes more travel — from ways to save money on travel, so traveling effectively around the world (even to places like North Korea and Saudi Arabia) — and even taking better pictures along the way.
There are more sessions, more choices, and a great group of people. While the speakers are fantastic, getting to know fellow frequent flyers and the great tricks and discussions in the hallways, at lunch, and over drinks can’t be beat.
- USA Today’s Ben Mutzabaugh, Seth Miller, Chris Lopinto of Expert Flyer, and Alexi Vereschaga from Award Wallet together at FTU Northern Virginia in April
As Hack My Trip wrote, “Frequent Traveler University is where you want to be if you’re a fanatic about miles and points!”
I look forward to meeting many of you there!

Wish I would be able to join, but thanks to everything learned by reading this and some other blogs, and help from Matthew( Live and lets Fly) we will be enjoying Europe at that time (award FC air tickets, free two nights in Park Hyatt Paris, etc.)
Thank you!
Well, hell – since I’m moving back to Tampa, I may as well make an appearance too.
schedule?
@Mr.Cool – I linked to the schedule in the post 🙂
So nice to see Summer without those sunglasses she always wears, which obscure that nice face.
Folks, when having your picture taken, PLEASE remove your sunglasses.
So I have checked the schedule but am unsure, if the topics covered are relevant enough from a European/German perspective!? Or is the focus more on U.S. based frequent flyers?
@Christoph – some things are going to be US-specific eg credit cards. Others will be broadly applicable (eg finding award availability)
Do you guys switch up the speakers? Its seems like the same group of speakers at each FTU.
Another sausage-fest. No thanks.
Scam university it is…
Gary–I’d like to do a session for beginners at the next FTU…can you make that happen? 🙂
I went to the last one and it looks like the majority of the speakers and topics are the same… Will there be any variety in their presentations?
Gary, I’m with Jay, why would someone want to go this conference again if the same speaker will give the same talk?
Some same, some different, it won’t be all different. Remember the last event was sold out months before, plenty of people wanted to see the talks and participate and couldn’t.
There are two talks this time by Frequent Miler and Stefan Krasnowski and Hans Mast, not just one, so necessarily each of them will have an entirely new talk and of course Frequent Miler’s talk will be current and today on 5x earnings.
Seth has a new talk of hotel loyalty, and finding local lodging establishments to get more value for less. The award booking sessions are more defined and will offer more practical walk-throughs.
As I say, some same, some different, many folks report that the talks are just a framework around which to gather with hundreds of frequent flyers for a great time and exchange of information.
If that appeals, great, look forward to seeing y’all. 🙂
I have no idea on who goes to these events, there are no secrets or anything new under the sun, all info is available on the internet.
I understand that the frequent travelers University is having a convention in Los Angeles in November. I went to the website and cannot find any information about it. Any ideas thank you
@Marc Scott – there’s an ‘ftu advanced’ event under consideration for early december but not yet finalized
Have a ticket to sell for FTU in Tampa!
Unfortunately,
My spouse just had reconstructive knee surgery this past Tuesday, so we are unexpectedly stuck in the Midwest for the near future.
We have 2 tickets to FTU Tampa we no longer can use. We wish we could attend. It’s an unbelievable time. personette @ gmail.com
Thanks – John
