Hyatt is offering up to a 30% bonus on purchased points.
The more points you purchase the higher the bonus.
Receive up to a 30% Point Bonus!
Purchase points from November 15 through November 29, 2013 and receive the following bonus:1
- Purchase 10,000 to 19,000 points and receive a 10% bonus
- Purchase 20,000 to 39,000 points and receive a 20% bonus
- Purchase 40,000 points and receive a 30% bonus
When Hyatt offers a bonus on purchased points, it is usually this bonus — such as in June 2012, February 2013, and June 2013.
I value Hyatt points at 1.5 cents apiece. I would not do this on a speculative basis. If you were going to buy some points to top off towards an award, it’s great that there’s a bonus.
There are a few situations where it would make sense to buy points instead of buying a hotel night:
- With top-tier hotels especially like the Park Hyatts in Sydney and Maldives it can be cheaper to buy points and redeem them. Unless you’re planning to book cash and points awards, be sure to book those before January 7 even if you’ll need to make a change to the reservation.
- Hyatt points can be exceptionally well-leveraged to confirm suite upgrades cheap, though you do have to pay an eligible rate to do this. And try to confirm the upgrade before prices go up January 7.
Before thinking about buying points to get high-end hotels at a discount, consider the possibility of using Hyatt stay certificates to do the same thing (although that strategy isn’t as lucrative as it used to be).
Bonuses are better than no bonuses, of course, but I’m not pulling out the credit card on this one. Though if I needed to hit minimum spend for a big credit card bonus, there are worse things to spend money on than prepaid hotel nights.
Since this is frequently a question, points purchases are handled via Points.com so do not earn credit card spend bonuses.

Used to be a decent deal, now not so much. 🙁
I thought that Cash and Points were not available until Jan 7 – and I can’t find anything on the Hyatt website to confirm or deny this…

OK, got it. Mis-read the “Unless you are…” part.
