News and notes from around the interweb:
- Costco’s switch from American Express to Visa is delayed until at least June. Here are the leaked details of the new Citibank-issued Costco Visa and an inside account of how American Express lost the Costco deal.
- United introduces new perk for flying kids
- New AMEX Offers: KLM $200 Off $1,000, Hilton Garden Inn $40 Off $200
- United is reminding flight attendants that passengers aren’t allowed to make voice calls via inflight internet. Of course airlines around the world allow inflight calling, and nothing bad comes of it.
- Customers who sign up for Zipcar with a country of origin of United Kingdom, Austria, France or Spain earn 2000 British Airways Avios (HT: Head for Points)
- Business Insider compares business class on Emirates (A380) and Delta (777)
I appreciate that United isn’t allowing customers to make inflight voice calls. Its bad enough listening to the obnoxious self-important businessman on the ground that speaks loudly enough for the whole club and/or plane to hear him tell his his assistant what to do. I value peace & quiet when I fly and can’t walk away from the loud conversation in the air like I might be able to on the ground.
I have never flown Emirates Business Class, but do fly Delta Business class a lot, so I found Julie Zeveloff’s review interesting. One criticism I would make is when she said that for the Emirates seat there was a big space beside it to store stuff, but for the Delta seat, she did not point out that there is no such space. In fact that is one of the biggest disappointments I have with the Delta seat — no storage area next to your seat to place small items.
Just wondering when Citi will start offering Visa cards so we can use a Citi card at Costco once they switch from Amex. I asked if I could have my Prestige or Premier with Visa instead of Mastercard and I was told that 95% of the cards issues by Citi are Mastercard. So, how do they plan to get their cards to be used at Costco?
Costco is going to have so many problems with CitiBank. CitiBank customer service is so poor. I have had a Thank You Premier Card for 2 days and it has been 2 days of grief. I give CitiBank until the end of this contract and they will be GONE!
The first time some clown makes a phone call on a flight that I’m on may well be his last.
