Earlier today I wrote that American had eliminated its telephone booking fee for awards.
While a welcome change, I didn’t see it as a big deal since they already waive booking fees for awards that cannot be booked on their website.
Still, pretty friendly of them, and plausible since Delta has eliminated phone fees for both award and revenue tickets.
American posted a new fee table to their website today, showing no phone booking fee and an increased ‘travel center’ booking fee.
It turns out it was just a mistake. American seems to have a lot of these. A year ago they posted an increase in the number of segments required to make top tier elite status, long before intending to make this change. In the fall they mistakenly posted new lower mileage earning for discount flights on British Airways and Ibera, about six weeks before they intended to make this change. And this new fee chart was posted in error as well.
Per American spokesman Casey Norton,
There is not a change to the award ticketing fee. There was an administrative error when we uploaded and updated some other content. Sorry for the mistake.
Time will tell if this was an error of fact or timing. For now, at least, telephone booking fees remain in place for awards that can otherwise be booked at AA.com unless you’re an AAdvantage Executive Platinum.
But 24 Hour holds for paid tickets are back!
@Dave they never went away from the website
