Did you get a British Airways Visa during the 100,000 point signup bonus frenzy? You may not realize that you also get 10% off bookings on British Airways.
MileValue points to this Milepoint thread indicating that British Airways Visa cardholders receive 10% off of all British Airways flights — log into your account and book through BA.com/chase10.
The offer is valid for travel through December 31 with promotion code CARDOFFERU, and takes a full 10% off including taxes and fuel surcharges, and applies to any class of service and for up to 8 passengers on the same itinerary.
Gary, you might note that it’s only off of BA round-trip flights. I tried the code a couple days ago with a one-way flight and it doesn’t work.
And flights on BA metal only–no code shares.
…and only on itineraries originating in the US (so not “all” flights). Have tried this numerous times originating in other countries and it was a no-go.
I wonder how many/few people will be able to fully use this given the restrictions and the fact you need to remember to use a specific link for this to work. It’s almost not worth it IMO…
I used the Canadian equivalent this summer during BA’s summer biz class sale and found it to be fantastic. The sale price itself was great but saved ~$200/ticket and paid about $1800 all in per ticket YVR-LHR.
I believe the Canadian link (for the RBC BA Visa card) is ba.com/rbc10, but I don’t think there’s a requirement to use the link. If signed into one’s BAEC account, and purchasing a ticket, on one of the screens there’s a place to enter a promo code (CARDOFFERC for the RBC card) on a purchase regardless if you used the rbc10 link or not.
I don’t consider the restrictions to be at all unreasonable. As I have a Canadian Visa card, I’m living in Canada, likely to be flying from Canada and purchasing a ticket on BA.com/Canada. Since it’s a BA branded card, of course BA will want to incentivize BA flying. Assuming the discount is rolls over to next year, the discount more than pays for the annual fee on the card next year.
Do you really need to use the Chase BA card? I went through the link and put in the offer code CARDOFFERU at the payment page. IT automatically took off 10% from the total. I didn’t actually buy the ticket, coz I was just experimenting. I need to meet some min spend for my Amex Gold card. Does anybody know if I can use my Amex card if I log in to my BA account and put in the code? Will the discount be honored?
Used my Amex BRG card last week instead of BA Visa. No problems at checkout. Flew over the weekend.
Wonder whether there’s any way to use this on the phone though. Maybe you can book online and then change fare class after? I want to book T class one way and H class return, and can’t figure out how to do it on BA.com.
@Sid, I dont know the answer, but why dont you try it? BA offers free cancellation and full refund within 24 hours.
@Sid, I think you’ll need to use the card at the end when you pay.
@Mandrake, I’ve actually used the discount a couple of times over the past year. Yes, it works only for flights originating out of the US, but if you have the Chase BA card, you’re more likely to start a flight from the US than from another country. The 10% discount has certainly saved me more than the annual fee, and I will be interested to see if this benefit, which was in place when I got the card in 2011, will be extended beyond the end of the year.
By the way, for those who can qualify, this discount stacks with the AARP discount (must book before 10/31–see http://www.britishairways.com/travel/aarp-discount/public/en_us?gsLink=searchResults), so during BA World Traveller Plus sales, you can snag a seat for around $950 after discounts, and then, if you have any Avios left over, upgrade to available Club World seats for 10K Avios and about an additional $130, each way.
Even without BA status, $1275 or thereabouts plus a net loss of 9K Avios (20K for upgrades on the London legs but about 9K earned for the flight plus 1700 earned through purchasing with the BA card) is a decent deal for business class. If you have Silver status with BA (earning a 100% bonus on mileage flown), you basically earn back the Avios you use.
too bad these deals only work for 2012. I’m working on a trip for 2013, would have liked a discount.
ugh.. trying for roundtrip starting in NYC for BA flights (BA metal) and I get this:
“Sorry, CARDOFFERU is not recognised or is not currently valid. Please check and try again.”
I am flying out in dec 2012 and returning on jan 2013. But the offer terms says – “Outbound travel must commence by December 31, 2012.”
Yeah, I had to call in to book the ticket, phone booking fee was waived and I got the 10% off.
I have applied for BA chase card yesterday and wanted to know how long they will take to approve. Is there any way I can expedite the process as I need to buy the tickets asap.
Call up the Chase consideration line and ask them. If you’re approved, tell them you want them to expediate shipping; they may do an overnight for you. Be sure though that you qualify for the 10% off, I think you have to leave from the US.
I bought the British Airways ticket last month through BA card and getting 10% discount which was a good deal. Today I checked the price of the ticket and it has dropped by $81(I have bought 2 tickets). Is there anyway I can get refund of $81 as the fares have dropped.
Thanks
Even though the quote was in USD for my flight originating in the US, I keep getting the following message when I try to use the offer with my BA Visa card: Sorry, you cannot use CARDOFFERU when paying in this currency.
I enjoyed this article. Please share more like it 🙂
