News and notes from around the interweb:
- Club1 Hotels which generally has really good pricing (and a best rate guarantee with teeth) is offering a 10% off discount code for any new hotel, car, or cruise booking — VW10 — valid for reservations made by 11:59pm Central on Sunday.
- How Virgin Australia VA134 from Sydney to Christchurch stopped on the edge of the runway
- Don’t get too excited by members of Congress promising to limit airline fees. Not only won’t it happen with Republican control of Congress and the Executive (and won’t happen if the House flips in November, either) but you won’t like the results. Ultra low cost carriers are the ones driving down airfares and they rely on fees the most.
But airline pricing is notoriously complex, and pulling at one string could loosen another.
Travel blogger Gary Leff says congressional limits on fees would mostly hurt so-called ultra-low-cost carriers such as Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines, which charge low fares but depend on fees for a greater share of their revenue. They are popular with some leisure travelers.
“We may wind up getting lower fees but higher fares,” Leff says.
- Frontier Airlines is reducing change fees.
- Oxygen masks deplay on a Jet Airways 737 and the plane turns back after passenger noses began to bleed. The pilots “forgot to switch the aircraft’s bleed system on.” Oops.

I hate Instagram.
Huh. That’s actually a pretty good way to see the windows.
Nice to see thought leaders still peddling Club1
@Ehch no upside to me if you use this code or make bookings
I’ve found Club1 to be pretty useless. The website is amateurish. The prices are higher than you’d pay booking directly on the hotel websites…even before you pay the Club1 membership or get a “discount”. I’m not sure how they stay in business.
I am glad to see others who don’t see that club1 offers good discounts. I keep searching and just see regular or even higher rates at club1. Add to that a rather poor interface for online booking. Perhaps you could highlight some better rates and give an example of 10% off that specific hotel stay.
The baggage handler footage is hilarious, like the dream sequence of someone imagining a bad day at work
