Monday’s London Heathrow Airport Strike Called Off, Tuesday’s is Still On

The last planned strike was called off but London Heathrow workers were planning a strike for this Monday and Tuesday. Now they say Monday’s strike is off.

Several flights have already been cancelled. Virgin Atlantic moved some of their service to London Gatwick. Those stay moved. Operations on Monday won’t be normal but should be better than expected and feared. As of now there’s still expected to be a strike on Tuesday.

Some 2,500 workers had planned to strike on both days in a row over pay.

Britain’s busiest airport has already cancelled 177 flights – roughly one in seven departures – after the Unite union rejected a pay offer.

These remain cancelled but the airport said the “vast majority” of passengers would still be able to fly.

Airport workers are also scheduled to strike again later in the month assuming no deal over pay is reached, and British Airways continues to talk with its pilots in an effort to avoid a strike there as well.
