176 Passengers & Crew Escape Burning A321 In South Korea As Flames Erupt From The Tail

On Tuesday, an Air Busan Airbus A321 preparing to depart from Gimhae International Airport in Busan, South Korea, to Hong Kong caught fire in its tail section around 10:30 p.m. local time.

A total of 176 people were on board—169 passengers and 7 crew members-were evacuated using the plane’s emergency slides after noticing flames and smoke near the tail of the aircraft. Firefighters arrived within minutes.

It appears that one to three people required medical attention, with one individual taken to the hospital for a minor injury, though details of injuries vary across reports. Everyone else evacuated safely.

Air Busan is a low-cost carrier based in Busan and is affiliated with Asiana Airlines, which was recently acquired by Korean Air. The cause of the tail fire has not yet been confirmed.

  1. Wow. It may have originated in the tail, but quickly spread down the length of the fuselage. Total hull loss, so glad everyone made it out alive.

  2. My goodness. Enough already. Mercy for these folks in the Republic of Korea. Between this, Jeju Air, and that coup attempt, what a couple of months! Feeling fortunate to have visited last year before all this went down. Might postpone a return ‘until (they) can figure out what the hell is going on,’ as our ‘great’ (again) leader once said about certain (other) countries–anyone remember that line?

  3. Glad to see the evacuation worked so well or this could have been yet another horrible tragedy.

South Korea has had a tough couple of months. It’s been nice to have been in South Korea since the wannabe authoritarian president and his crooked defense minister got put in their place by the critical mass of honorable people in the Korean security services and the rest of the government who defended democracy against a lawless President. Too bad the Republicans in government in DC are incapable of being as honorable as the South Korean politicians and tell their Lord Tr*mp to go pound sand.

Hello 1990. Like your stuff. Now time for me to go listen to Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses while I operate 666 mythical Flyertalk accounts which the moderators think they will find and shut down while I am busy hacking into the live feeds at the situation room under the White House and pulling the names and addresses of moderators and moderator meeting places from email accounts, phone messaging apps and everything else under the sun.

  4. Hey “GU Wonder” in case you forgot Trump was overwhelmingly elected President by a whole bunch of people much smarter than yourself! So maybe it is you that needs to “go pound sand”

  5. CMorgan’s Lord Tr*mp won a minority of the votes cast for President in the 2024 general election. He didn’t even get 50% of the cast votes for President. He barely beat Harris since the popular vote margin between the two was c 1.5% and the electoral college vote was built upon a margin of way less than 500k votes cast in the 7 swing states. MAGATs even did worse in the US House in 2024 than in 2022, and MAGAt control of the Senate is built upon a margin of c 5%.

Tr*mp won the votes of about 1 out of 3 US citizens of adult age. Around two-thirds of adult age US citizens didn’t vote for Tr*mp to be President.

But his own supporters are starting to cry “Uncle!!!”, as the chaos from the Project 2025 operatives and their front man Tr*mp is already hitting them financially when so many of them can’t afford being “collateral damage” as they still want to believe they are from the damage being done to them by the “prosperity gospel”-preaching clowns serving the oligarchs of the country and the world at the expense of the general public in America.

  6. @GUWonder

I doubt @CMorgan will return to refute you, because you are correct. In the end, all it took was about 33% of us to democratically elect a fascist dictatorship (‘on day 1’). A third of us knew better, and the remaining third stayed home, indirectly enabling them by their apathy.

This regime is going to harm a lot of people here and around the world–including His own supporters. While they are still blinded by their victory, the ‘leopards’ will eat their faces, too.
For those who knew better, schadenfreude is little consolation. Oh, how ’empathy’ became a sin.

So, history repeats and rhymes, yet why do we do keep doing this to ourselves? We knew better, but we choose not to. Is it simply the power of lies and propaganda–they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the dogs, the price of eggs, but her emails–or is it just pure ‘hate’ for the ‘other’?

As it relates to Korea, again, I really do admire what their people have pulled off–holding a corrupt, power-hungry man accountable. Even the Brazilians did this with Bolsonaro (for now). Generally, I fear for East Asia as the US will likely abandon them, allowing the CCP to take Taiwan.

Time will tell. If they truly over-reach like they seem to be doing, I hope that ‘resistance is (not) futile.’ For now, enjoy the good things while they last. I’ve been using up all my remaining points and miles with the airlines and hotels because the next global catastrophe can begin any day.

See you next time on here. I’ll keep posting snarky comments until Gary’s site gets shut down.
