New York JFK airport is a disaster. Governor Cuomo’s $10 billion plan won’t begin to fix it. The people who work there are bad enough but the physical plant itself is irredeemable.
Yesterday we were reminded of this simple lesson when a water geyser gushed up from the ground at baggage claim in American Airlines terminal 8.
Geyser @JFKairport #terminal8 Port Authority says excess rain water gushed thru floor when reverse flow valve malfunctioned @ABC7NY no flights or luggage affected

Apparently “the geyser was caused due to a backflow of rain water, which broke through the floor drain when the reverse flow valve malfunctioned.”
There weren’t any bags at the belt when this happened, so passenger luggage wasn’t destroyed. It took a few hours to contain the gusher.

I like how they have a mop there. Like that is gonna clean up all that water.
JFK continues to make LAX look fantastic.
@Gary – If JFK is irredeemable, what would you suggest? I’m not being snarky here, this is a genuine question.
While it’s probably in the bottom half of airport experiences, I do not find JFK to be a terrible airport. I do find that GETTING to JFK IS usually a bad experience.
Had a very nice time in T4 yesterday, until weather delays left us on the plane 5 hours. Hitting up DL this morning since they missed every tarmac delay threshold…
Thanks to the new water geyser in terminal 8 at JFK, the AA baggage claim now has the cleanest floor in the airport.
