Luxury Travel Diary, a high-end travel blog with great reviews based in the UK, has a bunch of travel auctions — some about to close, others extend into October — and there look to be some real bargains.

They wanted to highlight some of these, and offered to help organize a giveaway of a 3 night stay in a 3-bedroom luxury apartment in Knightsbridge, London for readers of this blog. Details on how to comment on this post to win below.

Folks who already know about these auctions won’t like the added attention, because frankly there aren’t enough bidders relative to the value of the offerings and some of these items go too cheap.

While we do stay at hotels frequently, London looked like a place we would want to stay like a local. I’ve participated in a few LTD auctions — It’s indeed important to pay attention to the details (date of expiry, blackout periods, and such) as well as to the prospective total cost of the trip (e.g., don’t submit a winning bid for a villa in the Maldives if you aren’t prepared to pay for two RT airfares with money or miles). And, not surprisingly, the bids tend to shoot up closer to true market value as the auction window closes. Still, there are indeed some very attractive offers to be found, and it all makes for a fun read in any event.
