Bali is one of my favorite relaxing places in the world. I go to the Maldives often, but it can be tough to get to and tough to get awards to. When folks come to me looking for French Polynesia and can’t find awards I’ll often suggest Bali.
It’s an interesting place with good food, cultural activities, and some of the world’s friendliest people. And there’s fantastic luxury accommodations available at reasonable prices for those spending US dollars.
Viceroy Bali is a family-owned resort with just 25 private pool villas. It’s in the artistic region of Ubud, so a nice departure from the more sterile Nusa Dua area of Westernized resorts. It’s a TripAdvisor 5-star and 2016 Travelers Choice award winner. I’ve seen very few properties with reviews this good. In fact, It’s TripAdvisor’s #11 of top 25 luxury hotels in the world.
And I’m going to give away a couple of nights there, with some fantastic inclusions, thanks to Luxury Travel Diary.
Luxury Travel Diary is a high-end travel blog with great reviews based in the UK that has a bunch of travel auctions with real bargains.
As I’ve said before, folks who already know about these auctions don’t like this added attention, because there don’t seem to be enough bidders relative to the value of the offerings and some of these items go way too cheap.
- Here are their auctions
- And here are the ones ending soon which are probably the best to check out right now – to get an idea of just how good a deal you’re likely to get.
Seriously, a hotel night in the Maldives for an auction ending in about 8 hours going for 28 British pounds as of this writing…
Luxury Travel Diary wanted to highlight some of their deals, and offered to help organize a giveaway of a 2 night hotel stay at the Viceroy in Bali.
What’s included?
- 2 night stay in a Garden Villa for 2 people
- Roundtrip airport transfers
- Daily breakfast
- One candlelit dinner for 2
- One couples spa treatment for 2
The hotel lists the value at $2500. It’s being given away by the hotel and Luxury Travel Diary, I’m just helping to highlight it and randomly select the winner. The stay can be taken through July 14, 2017 with July 15-30 and December 20-January 6 excluded.
To enter: leave a comment on this post with your favorite item up for auction at Luxury Travel Diary, or why you would choose to stay at Viceroy Bali. You may enter two times if you wish and answer those two questions one time each in separate comments.
Contest deadline and drawing winner: Entries close Friday, March 4 at Noon eastern. I will draw winner with the assistance of random.org.
The fine print: Advance booking is required and it’s subject to availability. Terms and conditions apply.
For avoidance of doubt, I have no affiliation with Luxury Travel Diary or Viceroy Bali. I am not getting anything in exchange for running this giveaway other than an opportunity to share the place with readers.
I will put the winner in touch with the hotel for booking. They are solely responsible for providing prize to winner. All decisions made in the course of running this giveaway are final and unappealable and your entry signifies your acceptance. The goal here is to make readers aware of a pretty cool auction opportunity, and to give away a stay. So please don’t make it hard on me for doing so!
You probably won’t fly to Bali and back for a 2 night stay, though you might add onto it and do other things in the region and it’s a great opportunity to spend American AAdvantage miles at just 55,000 miles each way in business class or 67,500 in first class before the March 22 devaluation.
My favorite item up for auction would be the 2 nights at the Intercontinental Malta. I’ve never been to Malta and would really love to go.
Favorite: 2 NIGHTS IN A LUXURY VILLA AT THE 5-STAR VICEROY BALI!!!
I would stay there just for the opportunity to go to Bali! Never been south of the equator!
I would bid on the Adriatic cruise in Croatia and treat my amazing wife to a well deserved vacation!
I have travel throughout Asia for decades and the Viceroy in Bali looks to be a outstanding property. The fine services offered, the attention to details and the focus on satisfying the customers shines through from their website (viceroybali.com). The architecture and beautiful vistas and views call to me and make me wake to schedule my visit there is my next Asian excursion. For me the Viceroy in Bali is a MUST SEE if I get the opportunity.
My favourite auction is: Miskawaan Luxury Beachfront Villas, Koh Samui!
I would stay their for the couples spa treatment
I grew up in Thailand so lovely resorts and beautiful ocean views are nothing new. BUT the Viceroy in Bali looks to be a outstanding property. I can tell from the website (viceroybali.com) this is a wonderful destination that I now long to see. The lovely images I have seen call to me and make me want to add this as a location to be seen in a future trip to the area. I can almost feel the warm breeze and hear the waves now. The Viceroy in Bali is a some place I definitely plan to visit should I get the opportunity.
My Favourite Item in the auction would be 3 Nights In A Villa At Loama Resort Maldives At Maamigili.
I would love to stay in the Viceroy to explore Ubud and meet the amazing people who call Bali home.
And why not? Aussies and Bali are like peas in a pod, almost fellow natives. Hope the Viceroy is as good as the Four Seasons JB of old.
I’d like to stay at the resort because it genuinely looks luxurious and has great reviews on TripAdvisor.
I want to stay at the viceroy because its so luxurious and because its close to my best friends house!
I want to stay the viceroy because of the views!
I want to stay at the Viceroy Bali. Those private villas are just the ticket for my wife and me!
I have been to Bali before and I agree with you that people are some of the gentlest kindest nicest people in the world. That coupled with a beautiful environment makes for a perfect trip. I sure would love to return and experience The lovely property you are talking about

Grand Hyatt Kaula Lumpur!! 🙂
Have always wanted to visit.
Thanks for doing this, Gary.. I’ve never been to Ubud, so this would be perfect!
Would make for a nice contrast to a planned stay in the Gili Islands.

The auction for grand hyatt Kuala Lumpur would be my choice
Since I live on Java, this would be great for me — I take Lion but my wife will insist on Garuda. I have stayed at all variety of places on Bali from no to five stars and would look forward to this.
I would choose the Viceroy as I would love to spoil my wife, who works very hard in a stressful job.
I would choose the 5 bedroom luxury villa in Orlando, as I would love to take my extended family to some theme parks!

After living in the bush of East Africa performing charity work for many years, Viceroy Bali would be the highth of unaccustomed luxury
I’d bid on the Adriatic cruise
My favorite auction item would be “3 NIGHTS IN A VILLA AT LOAMA RESORT MALDIVES AT MAAMIGILI” at Luxury Travel Diary. Never been to Maldives and it seems a paradise!
Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is the most appealing. Wow!
Staying at the Viceroy would be the perfect way to celebrate my 30th bday with my wife. 🙂
The reason I choose to stay at Viceroy Bali is it simply look heavenly! Love the garden villa, esp the pool area! It will be a wonderful getaway from the winter coldness.
I live in Perth, barely 4 hours from Bali, yet have never been to Bali (not that we travel a lot). A lot of my friends go several times a year as tickets can be had extremely cheaply on budget carriers like Jetstar (as low as $100aud each way).
I must confess that I’ve always been put off by the reputation of places like Kuta where a lot of Aussie ‘bogans’ go to behave badly. Though when I see pictures of peaceful surroundings of the viceroy, it’s pretty darn enticing. I have heard good things about Ubud and would love to go there, especially if it was staying at the Viceroy.
Oh, and thanks for the luxury travel auctions link Gary – could well come in handy next time we plan a holiday. 😀
For what it’s worth, I’d pick bond spectre hotel in Austria. That looks bad ass! :-p
