The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card has a best-ever initial bonus offer by a lot, worth 5 free night awards which can have a total value of 300,000 points. That’s more than double the value of the previous offer, and something I recall their offering only once before.
- Earn 5 free nights valued at up to 300,000 points (each night valued at up to 60,000 points) after spending $5,000 in the first 3 months from account opening
Cardmembers receive an Anniversary Free Night worth up to 40,000 points at IHG Hotels & Resorts. Plus, fourth reward night free when you redeeming points for a consecutive four-night stay at IHG One Rewards properties. Cardmembers receive automatic Platinum Elite status as long as you remain a Premier cardmember (earn Diamond with $40,000 spend on the card in a calendar year). Plus up to $50 in United TravelBank credit each year ($25 credit every six months). The card’s annual fee is $99.
Now, I wouldn’t value the offer as 300,000 points. You might book hotels that cost fewer points, and points can be saved more flexibly. Still, even valuing IHG points at 0.5 cents apiece you can see this as an exceptionally rich offer.
The card is likely subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule, making only those with fewer than 5 new cards in the past 24 months eligible for approval.
Now, my primary hotel chain is Hyatt, but IHG has a huge footprint and whether your second chain is Marriott, IHG, or Hilton it’s good to have their card for the status that comes with it and in this case because 4th night free helps your points go further.
Meanwhile the no annual fee IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card has a best-ever 120,000 point initial bonus offer as well (earned after spending $2,000 on the card within 3 months). One of the best features is that cardholders even without the annual fee get Redeem 3 Nights, Get the 4th Night Free.
Important details.. Fine print for the offer…. Each Free Night is valid for a one night hotel stay at a property with a redemption level up to 60,000 points, and cannot be supplemented with points from your IHG One Rewards account to redeem for a night hotel stay above that point redemption level.
Plus you cant take advantage of the 4h night free offer with these nights
Meh. I’ll be excited about an SUB for the IHG Chase credit cards when the language excluding legacy IHG credit cardholders is dropped.
Can you get this if you already have the personal iHG premium card?
Whoa! Thanks for sharing as always Gary – on paper this sounds great, will have to look into it further when I get a chance to sit down.
I’m guessing having these cards won’t exempt you from those pesky random HIX fees though, ha!
Any chance they will bend on the 5/24 rule on this card? Has anyone else had luck?
@L737 — It’s a good card, and a nice offer; just have places in mind for using those nights in-time. In my opinion, the annual free night (up to 40K) makes it a keeper card, so long as you redeem it for somewhere worth more than the $99 AF. For some reason the Kimptons have treated me well; they usually have complimentary coffee in the lobby each morning (it’s the little things.)
@Gabe — I doubt it.
@1990 — Thanks as always! Will have to do some research into the fine print and as to what properties are feasible with the free nights. As for the complimentary coffee, how early each morning though? (VFTW reference, I don’t drink coffee, ha)
@L737 — Bah! They do ‘tea,’ too!
no topping off option makes this a weak offer IMO. Not much you can get for 60k these days.
