Iberia is offering transatlantic redemptions on sale from just 17,000 miles roundtrip in economy.
- That’s half off, and Iberia’s fuel surcharges are quite modest
- Available for New York, Boston, and Chicago to Madrid in either direction
- Book by December 31 for travel January 14 – March 31
This is useful because Iberia is a transfer partner of both Chase Ultimate Rewards and American Express Membership Rewards, and you can move British Airways points over to Iberia provided your Iberia account has earned miles and been open for 90 days.

MAJOR CAVEAT IF FLYING PREMIUM ECONOMY:
Iberia provides the absolute worse Premium Economy MAD-ORD. On a recent 11 hour flight, no pre meal, separate cocktail service was provided; instead, drinks were served with the skimpy lunch meal (“Road Kill” chicken). The meal was basically coach, but served in demitasse china. Once served, the large crew complement sits until about 90 minutes before landing at ORD, when the cocktail cart is pushed through, and the most inedible meal served-bagel with warm cheese and turkey.
As well, be very much aware when transferring at MAD to a flight to North America that the allotted time is typically less than 30 minutes; with no priority-taking transfer subway; going through customs, nor hoofing it down the elongated concourse in main terminal. Indeed, on my particular flight, 4 business class passengers missed this flight; yet, purser did not offer upgrades, despite prior requests. Premium Economy not worth what is charged for the pathetic, indifferent service, crappy food, and lack of any cocktail service throughout the long flight!
Have I been so spoiled by Lufthansa to expect-and-appreciate top of the line on board service..?
Ironically, food and beverage services on the AVE is far superior to Iberia.
I wondered. Is business class half-off as well?
