600 United Miles for Taking One (Arduous!) Survey

I woke up to an email this morning from United offering 600 miles for joining ‘Opinion Miles Club’ and completing one survey.

You give your name, email address, mileage number and gender. Then you go to your email to confirm.

Then they want your date of birth, home address, whether you rent or own your home, your occupation, your education level, income, and race. They also want to know who you’re employed by and how much you make.

After completing registration they had another screening survey for me to take before they’d let me take a survey for miles. They wanted to know if I’m gay or wear glasses, and what purchasing decisions I make at work.

You’ll need to decide if that’s too much information, too invasive, and for that matter how honest you want to be if you decide to complete the quick questions required to join.

Then I was allowed to take a survey. I was told it would take 12 minutes. The first several questions were repeats of the screeners. Then they wanted to know about my last mattress purchase. For kicks I decided to say I didn’t know the brand of bed I bought, and I got kicked out of the survey without miles.

This new site will be useful to some, but they really do make you work for those miles.

  1. I sure am glad that I read your blog first thing this morning. I got the same offer. You just saved me a few minutes of aggravation! That is priceless! Thank you!

  2. I got the 300 miles offer. Ended up being asked a ridiculous number of questions about my recent camera purchase. I qualified for the 300 miles (survey took about 12 minutes) and then was offered a second survey about allergy meds for 50 miles. I started filling that one out but must have answered a question that disqualified me and got the ?Sorry no miles for you” response. Oh well, hopefully the 300 miles for the first survey will post. We’ll see…

  3. Signed up (also only 300 miles)and took a survey. After 25 minutes of answering questions about my buying habits over the last 3 months, completed the survey and hit “Submit Answers”.
Message received was “no server available to handle your request”. Then hit “Contact Us” on my welcome email and got a second error message.
    Very Frustrated.

  4. Wow – way too long, I finally gave up. It just wasn’t worth it.

    #WayTooMuchTimeWasted

  5. sounds like one of those bogus surveys that end up with the victim being slammed with unwanted phone services.

  6. Got the 600 mile offer this AM and managed to do a survey (although was disqualified for the first one).

It then showed 0 points, with 600 processing.

Well, I’m a bit amazed, but the 600 points have already posted to my MP account…how United takes 6 days to post a flight, yet this can work in 6 hours…

That said, I then got an offer for another survey for 35 minutes and 50 miles…no thanks.

  7. I stopped when they wanted my work phone number to use” to verify information”. Not worth it.

  8. Super annoying – long registration then survey after survey ‘you don’t match our profile’ even after spending 5 mins on their damn survey and no points. After 5th one I managed to complete. Really big waste of time.

  9. I got the 600-point offer. By the time I realized just how long, detailed, and frustrating the survey was, I decided I need to finish it. Mine was about furniture purchases – many detailed questions about every single item of furniture I purchased in the last 12 months. They said it would take 15 minutes, but it took 30, and I didn’t even buy much furniture.

At the end I did get a message that I had earned the 600 points – and a chance for feedback in which I stated I’ll never have time to take such a lengthy survey again. Will wait to see the miles post.

    I’m not recommending it.

  10. Just got 300 points for my account and my wife’s. I needed to refresh one of the accounts so this was helpful, as long as they post.

  11. Got the 600 point offer and I have no status, but do have Visa. Husband has no status or Visa and was not offered survey. Was way too long, hiccupped in middle but was eventually able to finish. Email confirms 600 miles earned, but so far not posted to account.

  12. Awesome! Got the 600 point offer (as a non-elite, Visa holder). Took six tries and an overnight to finally get a survey to complete this morning. 600 points are already in my UA account!

  13. Note, the offer now states one needs to be a card holder to earn 600 miles. Instead, one will only earn 300 miles as a new non-card holder member.

    Opinion Miles Club

Earn 300 award miles when you join Opinion Miles Club and complete your first survey. Plus, earn award miles for every additional survey you complete. The more surveys you complete, the more miles you earn.

    Website: http://www.opinionmilesclub.com

Special offer for all MileagePlus credit cardmembers and Premier® members: Earn 600 award miles when you join Opinion Miles Club and complete your first survey.

  14. Yeah…credit card or status required for the 600 miles–not mentioned in promo. Also, can’t qualify for a survey due to everyone I try being “CLOSED” redirected to another b=never ending loop of closed surveys.

  15. Opinion Survey is a joke. Repeastedly “bounced” for not eligible for that survey.

This offer has no credibility and should be removed from the web site.

  16. Yes, it is a bitch to enroll and frustrating when you don’t qualify, but I have over 1000 miles credited to my account now with Opinion Miles Club. I prefer ERewards survey’s over this one. At least with ERewards you get some small amount of credit if you don’t qualify. So far this year I have added 10,000 miles to my United FF program with this program, ERewards and E-Miles programs. Every little bit helps. And it also helps if you are retired and have little more to do than fill our surveys..ha ha. It sure beats watching the soap operas.

  17. Bob,
Thanks. I just wanted to get some points to keep my UQ account active and your ERewards sounds intriguing and I will check it out.

Opinion SUrvey is not worth the time commitment.

  18. I got through the first survey – but two subsequent surveys did not even work – click on “continue” and wait, and wait, and wait. Tech support was no help – told me to do what I was already doing, as I had told them.
    Not ready for prime time.

  19. Dmorris thinks it’s a good deal and almost everyone else thinks it’s terrible?

    WOnder why?

  20. Euromann – not sure what your issue is?? Sorry you are negative and didn’t like my post. It continues to a good deal for me and I cont to log miles. Being as honest as I know how. Don’t ruin it for others…. I am up to 4000 miles – the surveys are easy, and the help desk is responsive. Don’t be a hater. 🙁

  21. Dmorris,
Obviously you NEGLECTED the multiple posts as saying the survey is infrequent to access. Many are never allowed an entry and give up yet you promote it as a great opportunity.

It’s a waste of time as I have answered 6 different entries and been denied an opportunity for points.

Truly a PROMO for people with no life and time on their hands.

  22. Another worthless feedback from the Opinion Survey:
    “Thank you for your time.

Unfortunately we have collected all the surveys we need from your particular demographic group. We apologize for any inconvenience. ”

Worthless exercise that tries to acquire personal information and does not declare it’s usage or protect the person entering data.

  23. Euromann – sorry you continue to be shut out – not sure what that means…… 🙂
Perhaps you just aren’t patient enough? Your comment about this being for folks with no life and time on their hands is comical. Again, sorry you seem to be a hater. I will continue to take surveys and rack up points.

  24. Dmorris,
YOU are a hater thus you attack the PERSON not the issue.

Opinion survey as noted by many above is disaster and only a few claim any success but spend hours trying..Please stop attacking people on this blog as it fails to show any respect.

If 600 points is so important for you to promote go find a job at UA maybe you can beg for another 600.

  25. Euromann

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You crack me up!

And 600 is long gone, I’m over 4000.

Have a good day – you seem to be in need of some compassion!

With that I’ll conclude our conversations and wish you well!

  26. Dmorris,
Thank you for ending our debate on a happy note!

Now to help others maybe you can list what information you put in to get approved for a survey. My honesty has been rejected 7 times.

    Good luck!

  27. This is clearly a means to phish for information for spam (at best) or personal information for identity theft (at worst).

United should be ashamed of themselves for this partnership.

  28. Tim,
    Agree completely.

View from the Wing credibility is somewhat lessened to allow this manipulative mile offer to be shown via it’s web site.

Time for Gary or whoever to step-up and validate the offer works and HOW IT WORKS or ADVISE the followers to stay away from this scam!

  29. Shouldn’t this Opinion Survey offer be BANNED from “View from The Wing” due to lack of credible offer?

  30. This is funny to me – I’ve commented before. I am now up to 5200 miles and my miles post every time I finish a survey. Like everyone, I do get rejected for some surveys but for most I am eligible and I get my miles. Seems like an easy way to log miles to me. 🙂

  31. Surprise. I logged in as DMorris and got a survey of 80,000 miles.
United Opinion Survey is so easy I recommended Obama try to reduce HealthCare costs.

If Gary truly cares about the INTEGRITY of his blog then he eliminates this ridiculous scam offer.

DMorris can you attach your Phishing email address?

  32. @euromannn – this is like any other survey site, they will occasionally give you something valuable but your opinion isn’t really worth all that much most of the time. Others have gotten points from it. I’m sorry that you feel my posting about it (for which I get nothing) is a black mark.

  33. Gary,
You hit the nail on the head:
    1. Promotion referenced on your blog that rarely works.
    2. No feedback on what information must be added to make it work.
    3. Numerous posters who question the integrity of the offer.

If you are not getting anything out of this offer and it presents numerous followers problems and questiosn abotu what does the Opinion Survey do with your personal data……

I would hope you block this offer from yuor site. makes no sense to continue due to the lack of credibility with United on this promotion.

In fact when I called UNited Airline’s they were unaware of the Opinion Survey promotion.

  34. I don’t know what some of you guys are smoking, but this offer is real. I signed up several months ago and have added over 1500 miles to my FF account. The results are posted on my UAL FF account. Granted that some of the surveys don’t work out, but I have had good luck getting 60 and 50 miles per survey on most of them for just a few minutes of my time. Well worth the time spent.

  35. Bob,
Then post the answers to the “trick” that allows the survey to be an option. DMorris didn’t provide any hints so many cannot pass being honest entering their own data.

  36. Trick to be allowed on surveys for Opinion Miles and E-Rewards: If they surevey asks, “which of the following electronic devices do you own?”, select all of them, even if you don’t own it, so long as you know enough about it to have an informed opinion. “What major purchases are you considering in the 12 months?” All of them! House, Boat, Car, Vacation Home, Internationl Vacation, etc! Obviously if you select the one that the survey is for you will be allowed. Where I am careful is on sureveys for, say, medication. That is where I draw the faint line – I don’t lie about side effects, etc. just to earn 50 miles.

BTW – e-rewards much better than opinion miles.

  37. Euromann – you cont to be so negative – move on! What a case of sorry grapes! There are no tricks – you see several positive posts of people using this program effectively and successfully. Do not speak for me – I answer the surveys honestly, and most of them go through – and I am logging points every week. If you read other blogs you will also see others taking surveys and racking up miles. This is a great way to log miles – if you don’t like it don’t participate – but please let it go! Good grief.

  38. Well here is a summary:
Bob Eliis and DMorris ignoring requests to help answer HOW to navigate through the survey. Add Gary Leff to the list who just apologizes for the link NOT help the followers.

Special thanks for “uclalum” who at least COMMUNICATES what he think might get many followers to try.

Problem of this blog is failure to answer a question on HOW to access the survey is so many are rejected.

Gary can work on this concept for future process improvements to HELP solve the mystsery instead of just sitting back and letting posters argue. Unless he was so bored and never VALIDATES the promos on his blog.

  39. Thanks for the recognition, Euromann… I know I am months late, but just stumbled across this blog entry.

I don’t know if I would say Gary was really promoting this link as much as he was issuing a warning about it. Your time is better spent elsewhere (certainly not at mileageplus shopping or dining, other lame sources of miles). I would reserve promos such as these for emergency use when you need to keep your account active by having some activity (noting you need a few weeks to confirm your activity posts in time).

  40. Uclalum,
Agree this UNited Promo if it can be successful is for emergency miles.

I just did a Fidelity 50,000 miles United PROMO so I don’t feel an urgency.

Just trying to help others who can’t get past the STUPID UNITED survey questions.

ONLY you attempted to communicate the success criteria(I haven’t verified) but appreciate the effort.

Maybe a few who post on this blog PLUS Gary will see teh advantage of communicating the right way to access the survey versus just generic posts.
