News and notes from around the interweb:
- There reports that someone was shooting at aircraft at the Austin airport. Police searched for two hours, found no one and no guns. To show how rumors spread, people then started to believe there was an escaped inmate on the loose who must have been doing it. Even though there was no escaped inmate.
- Etihad and Gulf Air have signed an MOU for greater cooperation. Perhaps a deal there could eventually make sense. Ironically Etihad was launched after Gulf Air abandoned its Abu Dhabi hub. Both carriers have talked up getting closer to Star Alliance.
- Nordstrom’s takes $72 million overcharging interest to store credit card customers
- Singapore Airlines struggling to sell premium economy on its ultra-long haul US non-stop flights.
Singapore Airlines Premium Economy - How the Boeing 737 MAX automatic trim can fool pilots
- The Trump administration is creating an in-flight sexual harassment task force. And no, their charge isn’t to create a how to manual.
The 737 MAX story is astounding. American didn’t know about the system either. I think this has been underreported as to the profound effect it could have on Boeing.
Agree, the LionAir crash and the implications for Boeing is huge news. Fallout may be severe.
It seems odd to me that the unrelated issues with the airspeed indicators on some aircraft can freeze up and cause aborted take off events came about in the same year or so. I don’t much about all this but just seems interesting timing. Oh and stop shooting at aircraft Gary.
I hope premium economy is a massive flop. Nobody asked for it but somehow airlines think it’s the future. All it really is is a devaluation of business class so that international business class becomes as bad as domestic first class while international first class is devalued to international business class. Nobody in their right mind would pay extra for a non flat domestic first class seat for long haul international. It’s going to be a huge failure.
SQ cannot fill premium economy because their price to level of service is way off. Compared to other airlines’ premium economy they seem to fall short: https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads/sq-premium-economy-food-service.91182/
SQ cannot fill their premium economy because their price to service level ratio seems way off. Compared to other airlines’ premium economy, SQ offering seems to leave a lot to desire for.
Looks like I cannot post URLs. Goggle “Australian Frequent Flyer and SQ premium economy” and click on “SQ Premium Economy Food & Service”.
