It was Bill Murray’s Bob Harris in Lost in Translation who makes the Park Hyatt Tokyo’s New York Bar so special. But whether it’s Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters, Phil in Groundhog Day, or Carl Spackler in Caddyshack, Murray has played a number of roles on screen but none of them are the job he really wanted.
In 2013 Atlanta got the first P.F. Chang’s in an airport, upstairs on the A concourse. That P.F. Chang’s has set a new milestone. It’s where Bill Murray wanted to work.
Appearing on Amy Shumer’s pdcast he talked about “his desire to work at the [P.F. Chang’s] dining chain.” It’s the “one job he’d like to do outside of acting” and he shared that he “fill[ed] out an application at P.F. Chang’s at the Atlanta airport, because I think that’s one of the great places.”
Schumer asks him, “To do what? Just any job?” And Murray replied that “it looks like the best time.”
When P.F. Chang’s found out, they offered him the job! But how did HR pass over him the first time?
Bill, you're hired! When can you start? #billmurray https://t.co/1VOAbguvsO

Bill Murray showing up to work at P.F. Chang’s is actually plausible, if only for a shift. He’s known to crash bachelor parties and eat french fries off the plates of strangers. It turns out as well there are a lot of Bill Murray stories at airports and travelers always come away impressed. Here he is flying Southwest:
He seems quite the eccentric
I once was on a flight with Bill Murray I was 11 years old and I sat next to him, first class on a TWA flight headed to LA- I had zero clue who he was- during the 5 hour flight there wasn’t a moment of silence- he had myself and my family dying- Mr Murray was doing lines from his movies- when the plan landed, Bill asked my family how long were were in LA for, got my dads phones number- and later that day we were invited to the opening of Ground Hogs day, we got to go to the Chineses Theater and everything- Thanks for posting- That was a great time for my family.
You need to watch “The Bill Murray Stories” – extremely funny like Bill. Well worth an hour of your time. It was on netflix as some point – may still be there.
Food and hospitality runs in the family. Bill’s son Homer is a restauranteur in NYC.
