News notes from around the interweb:
- Best Western is offering elite status, and in some cases lifetime elite status, to essential workers.
- The time to reverse loyalty program devaluations is now “If your management team still refers to your loyalty program as the “credit card program” – then you have major problems…”
- Southwest Airlines is currently the biggest airline in the world and Wizz Air the largest in Europe.
- Times of crisis reduce anti-trust scrutiny (mergers are painted as necessary for survival). Expect to see some hotel chain mergers.
- Delta suspends Million Miler gifts
- Ryanair’s CEO doesn’t think empty middle seats should be required because public transportation won’t be requiring social distancing.
- Alaska Airlines follows others in blocking middle seats – but on small aircraft like their Q400s they are also blocking aisle seats to promote distancing.
- United will double cater most flights from their hubs so they can cease spending money on contractors (they cannot lay off their own catering employees before October 1 because they took CARES Act subsidies).
- At least there will be something to come back to.
A little more good news coming out of @DENAirport today! ✈️🎉 Looks what is getting closer to opening next to B32? ☕️ Hooray! #Coffee lovers unite at @united’s B West Concourse! #Starbucks #coffeetalk #coffeebreak #AirportLife @weareunited pic.twitter.com/jCbJdQYXqE

Finally w/DEN – have never understood why the coffee offerings were so piss poor in B
If SWA becomes the world’s largest airline I can’t wait to see the reactions of some of these entitled assholes who have to hold their nose and sit in coach.
