Star Alliance member Air Canada has a limited partnership with oneworld member Cathay Pacific. Brand new today, it’s now possible to redeem Air Canada Aeroplan miles for Cathay Pacific flights online. And best of all, you can easily combine Cathay Pacific flights with other flights.
What this means is you just need to get to Hong Kong, and you can include an onward flight from Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific without spending additional miles.
Eligible Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon routes are between Hong Kong and:
- Chiang Mai, Thailand
- Phuket, Thailand
- Bangkok, Thailand
- Cebu, Philippines
- Manila, Philippines
- Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
- Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
- Hanoi, Vietnam
This makes getting to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines using Aeroplan miles much easier.
Aeroplan recently added mileage redemption on Etihad and Azul. You can combine those airlines with others as part of award tickets, mixing and matches their Star Alliance and non-Star Alliance partners and redeeming online, which is fantastic.
Adding Cathay Pacific redemption online is a nice addition, and something that makes it easier for members to combine them with other carriers and making it easier to get to destinations across Southeast Asia. With Aeroplan’s recent partner additions, indicating an emphasis on partnering beyond Star Alliance, and this new investment in the Cathay partnership, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Cathay partnershp eventually grow – but probably not soon, as Cathay leadership has plenty of their plates distracting them (Covid-19, new security law and increased control by Beijing).
A particularly good deal before the big devaluation coming this Autumn.
All these great deals and Americans aren’t welcome anywhere that I want to visit. My Greece trip was this week, but had to be canceled. I don’t blame the E.U. I wouldn’t want us either. But it’s a bit harder not being able to cross the Canadian border, especially as I’m used to going across and back every month.
I have a feeling that these great deals will disappear before we can cross the borders.
For at least the past year I have seen CX flights on UA awards with intra-Asia segments.
@Jen Don’t worry. I’ve been playing this game for +20 years and one thing I have learned is that deals will ALWAYS come and go. When one ends, another one begins. We’ll get through this and all be traveling once again and I cannot wait for that day. I miss the smallest things like just the drive to the airport, going to the ticket counter, people watching etc.
Do you. Think aeroplan miles will be devalued this fall ….should k book a trop now using aeroplan milesor wait ????
