Uber Co-Founder Has Started A New U.S. Airline And It Launches Next Week

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Uber co-founder Garrett Camp is behind a new scheduled flight service from private airport terminals in the same vein as JSX, Aero. It will operate LA (Van Nuys) to Aspen February 4 through April 2021. Pricing is $990 each way in February, $1250 each way after that.

There may be a good niche business here, but the pricing seems too high to scale. And then there’s this,

boasting a sleek all-black exterior with luxury cabin interiors; adorned with hand-stitched Italian leather seats, custom suede interior walls, and a signature ultra-leather pipeline throughout the flight, set under the sophisticated art lighting and a custom sound system by Bongiovi Aviation — offering an immersive flight experience worthy of any jetsetter.

  • A report that Bank of America sent out a 1099-MISC form for an Air France KLM credit card initial bonus.

  • The Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema has 8 favorite places to eat and they include Elephant Jumps, which I’ve long recommended as the best Thai food in the area. I haven’t found a better place in the United States. It’s worth the trek out to Merrifield in Northern Virginia.

  1. I question the idea of all black in the California sun but then again the whole business model seems dumb

  2. Looks like a fancy flight on United Express or Mesa Airlines. Nobody in private aviation uses an ERJ… Pay premium for a nice sound system?? In an airplane?!?!

  3. I have a rule…if a company advertises itself with the buzzword “bespoke”, I run for the hills. Guaranteed to be overpriced and pretentious. Especially if referring to airplane seats.

I wonder if it will have the cash burn that Uber goes through. (Why does underpants yields profit come to mind?)
