oneworld Elite Members Can Now Access The…LAX Star Alliance Lounge?

Covid makes for strange bedfellows.

The oneworld business class lounge at LAX, managed by Qantas, closed in March 2020. Qantas still hasn’t resumed its U.S. flying, though it plans to do so next month. And the oneworld lounge remains closed. That’s presumably why the Star Alliance business class lounge in the Los Angeles airport’s Tom Bradley International Terminal appears to be accessible to eligible premium passengers in the rival oneworld alliance.

Specifically, British Airways business and first class passengers at LAX, as well as mid-tier (Sapphire) elites and above in any oneworld frequent flyer program traveling on BA, can access this lounge. This may have been the case for sometime but I did not notice it.

Though I’ve always found the food offerings to be a bit meager, this remains one of my favorite business class lounges in the United States because of the bright and airy deck that is outside the lounge while still inside the terminal, but most importantly because of the outdoor deck with fire pits.

Once Qantas returns to LAX, presumably the oneworld business class lounge will re-open. In a sense that’s disappointing, because I do not like it nearly as much. However re-opening of the Qantas first class lounge will be a positive because historically its food has been excellent.

  1. I flew BA to LHR from LAX last month in business and I noted I’d have to walk back to terminal 4 to use the AA lounge and the agent checking me in did not mention this. Either it’s new or I had a bad agent… didn’t get to use a lounge because of timing.
