News and notes from around the interweb:
- The Points Guy site actually takes Ravn Alaska’s ‘FlyCoin’ cryptocurrency seriously (and covers it as though it’s new news rather than something I explained in September). No, this isn’t something to be taken seriously. And a good news piece needs to offer context, not just say crypto.
- Turkish Airlines has a new Chairman and he actually makes them call him “Professor Doctor”
- Air Canada sells leftover business class meals in economy and it’s kind of cool.
- It’s almost as though we haven’t learned anything about Covid-19 in two years.
I’m sitting in the SLC airport and there is a recurring PSA from the SLC Mayor that says “We are updating our safety protocols as our understanding of COVID-19 evolves. We are sanitizing high touch areas and using enhanced cleaning procedures. Please wash hands regularly.” 🤦🏻♂️

- Air New Zealand will fly to Newark and not JFK of course because they want connecting feed from United rather than simply to serve the New York market.
- United Airlines updates its coach buy on board menu next month along with other small catering changes. I actually would not mind trying this:
A brioche BBQ burger will feature a beef patty with Grand Cru cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, and BBQ sauce and be offered on domestic flights longer than 3.5 hours that depart after 9:45am.
Prof. Dr. is pretty common in Germany. They are separate titles, of course. I would presume TK culture is similar. https://academia.stackexchange.com/questions/12406/why-are-the-german-professors-addressed-as-prof-dr-xxx
That United burger sounds messy…..
@ Gary — You can be 100% certain that it won’t be as a good as it looks/sounds.
The year is 2059. Los Angeles still has a mask mandate. Our understanding is “still evolving”. Meta Cyborg Emperor Klaus Schwab, showing his benevolence, has recently extended amnesty to those who have only their 41st booster but not their 42nd.
And in 2059 Breathe free Karens are still triggered by a small piece of fabric.
I would 1,000% try that burger 🙂
No thanks on the e coli frankenburger. Just give me a day old slice of pizza and a bag of funyuns.
Yuck. give me a salad or the AA short rib or pasta, hamburger not fresh just suck.
@ Gary, not to make this a personal inquiry, but you seem untroubled by the bacon. I would feel the need to take a pass.
@pakmiller I do not think bacon is necessary on a burger, but I think it’s fine on a burger. United certainly won’t be using bacon I’d choose to use.

Some years ago I had one of the best meals in a plane in all my life, on UA, domestic J IAH to MIA (catered in IAH). I still have the pictures of such a memorable meal. And yes, I have flown EK F, LH F and CX F so I have some data points. As for appetizers the best in my memories still is the ahi tuna that was served regularly for some years in LH domestic J, it was amazing!
