Gary, excellent advice on the credit card trip delay insurance. Recently had this exact experience with Jet Blue and knew we’d be waiting for hours to stay in a horrible place during an overnight delay. Used my phone to book a good place, had a decent dinner in the hotel, and got reimbursed from my Chase Ink Visa without having to beg Jet Blue to pay for their own mistake. I’m not sure I would have had my credit card trip delay insurance in mind at the time had I not read about it from you. So thanks!
Nope not true , hotel vouchers are sent electronically to their cell phones.

I continue to stare at photos of an endless line waiting for a hotel voucher, wondering why this happens. Are people so cheap that they can’t just go get themselves a hotel for the night when there are flight problems? If you’re spending thousands on a special trip or vacation, why not budget in an extra $200 so you can take care of yourself? I realize that there are many people who don’t qualify for a credit card with built-in perks like trip interruption insurance … but that doesn’t mean they can’t take care of themselves and their families when travelling.
@huey judy, I guess you’re for real? Not everybody in that line has spent thousands, some have spent only hundreds and it’s not even their own money used for the airfare portion of their trip. $200 for a hotel night that could be free just by being patient and waiting in line is absolutely not worth spending out of pocket for many travelers. Check your privilege. Jesus Christ. How about this. If $200 is chump change to you and the line is too long, why don’t you make a charitable act and go down the line spotting everybody $200?
Just one more reason to stay close to home. Flying is too much of a hassle!
