Why not allow first-class passengers to order a pilot meal?
For US airlines, AA spends the most per passenger meal. Believe it or not.
@Lee, that’s true! We’re a long way from the days of AA removing one olive from a salad to save $1MM.
When will AA bring meals back to what was exception routes? Such as ORD>DFW and ORD>LGA?
@Lee I don’t believe it. The DoCo meals out of BOS and DTW on Delta are pretty good. I haven’t had a “pretty good” meal on AA since 2014.
Recently flew PHL-MCO (863 miles) in first. I’m bet lots of leisure flyers pay out of pocket to take this route, and the ones that do it in first expect more than a snack basket.
ChrisInNY, it’s documented by an independent source. Of course, this is a system-wide average and individual routes might be sub-par. And, price does not necessarily translate into quality. But, them’s the facts.
I have argued that the business class traveler is not as price sensitive. As such, add $2 to meal cost (which would substantially raise the quality) and raise the ticket price $20. The customer would be willing to shell out the $20 and would be favorably impressed. And, the airline would reap a profit.
Try flying cross country in economy. Bring your own food &/or snacks. You might get a Biscoff thrown your way if you’re nice.
Does this mean DCA to PBI/RSW/FLL get a meal in 1st? I have never understood why they are offered out of PHL but not DCA as they are similar distance. And what does AA define as “short haul” for this purpose? Lastly it looks to be for only a limited period of time.
So AA will now train FAs to heat up a bowl of “instant” vegetarian ramen?
